Title Family by Choice Spoiler
It's karma, I personally wouldn't feel bad but I understand feeling empathy for someone facing hardship even though…
I mean, the guy needs to breathe. It’s not shown clearly, but Sanha (based on Go Ahead) has been trying to communicate with his mom about wanting to visit his dad and Juwon, but everytime, his mom guilt-trips him. Yes, his mom is disabled and suicidal, but Sanha is struggling too—he’s just been holding on in the hope of being reunited with Juwon someday. For 10 years, he has borne this responsibility; you can’t blame the guy for lying and running away because he wanted to live too.

In Go Ahead, the FL loves sweets so much that she suffers from tooth problems—knowing this, one of the ML chose to study dentistry, while the other became a pastry chef. It's endearing that, even though they were separated during high school, the MLs chose professions with the FL in mind.

It’s really interesting that Family by Choice takes a different route— Juwon loves sweets, so she became a pastry chef and now owns a cake shop/café. She learned to be independent and pursue what she wants on her own. I wonder what Sanha’s motivation was for becoming an orthopedic. Since Hae Jun didn’t finish Uni, the story seems to be leaning toward him getting a restaurant space for his 'dad'. Now, the motivations of the two MLs are different. I’m glad they’ve clearly moved away from the love triangle.

Dal x Haejun | Juwon x Sanha! let's go!

Do Hoe is stressing me out so hard. As much as I’m rooting for them and find their past heartwarming, I can’t…
Me too, but I guess his worst enemy is his trauma. 12years have passed, but DH hasn't had a chance to face it. He’s kept it locked away tightly since the day he ran. Facing Ju Yeong is like confronting his trauma, his shame, and his guilt. Seeing JY being okay after everything that happened is an additional challenge for him. It’s all coming back to him full force, and he doesn’t know how to handle it. I know he’s trying because of JY, step by step I know DH will get there (in Hwang Da Seul I trust, lol) , and I'm glad JY isn’t giving up on him.

I’m so very much in love with the visuals; the people and the background are truly mesmerizing. Love the styling of each characters. I also enjoyed their acting, their different facial expressions whether they are sad or angry or happy is on point. Specially Bai Jiu scream. lol

But I started to feel a bit bored with the gloomy sound, gloomy atmosphere, and gloomy voice. I’m not sure if I should praise the director for his style, because visually, I’m well fed, but the tone sometimes drags me down.

As a fan of both Korean and US versions, the first two episodes feels lacking because of Shone's acting. The portrayal and mannerisms of the autistic character fall short, and some of the operating scenes props seem off.

I don’t mean to only point out the negatives, but I genuinely hope things improve as the episodes progress. The story has potential; it just feels like the production and direction need to step up.

I nominate Sanha's Mom as the worst/heartless mother of the year and Hae Jun's Dad as the narcissistic father of the year!

As a big fan of the original, I was initially missing some scenes, particularly the super crazy Jian Jian moments. However, out of all the dramas that have remakes, I’m really loving this one. Even though I know what’s going to happen, the changes they made still manage to surprise me.

I especially appreciate the changes in Hae Jun's character. I like to think that because he’s treated so well and deeply loved, he has the confidence to express his emotions and jealousy rather than keeping them bottled up. The chemistry between the trio is so natural that I hardly noticed the time passing while watching them.

I know it’s impossible not to compare, but if we take them as different personas and don’t expect each character to act exactly the same way or be as detailed as the original, this drama will take us on a wild ride, too. When I heard about the remake, my only hope was that they would give the original a run for its money—and so far, I haven't been let down. 🤍

idk if its because i feel so attached with chef edward lee and him losing that i felt like the final ep seems…
I've never watched a cooking competition before, but the set design is incredible. The black and white color scheme, like pieces on a Go board, is genius. I also love the logo—it looks like two people facing off, and if you look closely, it even resembles a spoon. The whole production is so grand, it makes the viewing experience truly chef's kiss. 🤍🖤

idk if its because i feel so attached with chef edward lee and him losing that i felt like the final ep seems luckluster than the semis...I mean the chefs created wonderful dish out of tufo and Chef Lee created a 6-course meal on top of that, really great episode. The finale could have been more memorable if they fought back and forth at least thrice for the thrill but yeah since I believe in the integrity of Chek Paik, it cant be manipulated just to satisfy such narrative. Still a fun watch. I got hungry every episode 🤭

woaah we have a remake🥹
Go Ahead is one of the top-rated C-dramas on MDL for a reason. The challenge with remakes is that, like it or not, comparisons with the original are inevitable. I just hope the Korean version can stand on its own and make 'Go Ahead' fans proud. For those who haven’t seen the original, I hope they enjoy this version because the story is truly captivating. You should give 'Go Ahead' a try too—the actors are natural and will melt your heart.

I’m planning to binge-watch the episodes this weekend! 🤍
