Gay Dating show done right!

As a gay man myself, it is refreshing to see a dating show that has not only made me feel butterflies in my stomach, but also feeling the same struggles that the men in the show are facing as well. Nothing about this show felt forced, just humans having feelings for one another and how they chose to express those feelings that they have in the way that they know how to. The casts were really the right mix of chemistry within the house, which made the show even more entertaining. Having watched both seasons of his man, season 2's men were much more vocal and active in their thoughts, which brought about a different feeling as compared to watching s1.

Did I expect too much after UWMA?

To start off with, I loved UWMA. The storyline was interesting, and despite that having more episodes than between us, I was kept interested throughout till the end. In between us, it felt like there was too much family drama, too much emphasis on side characters that I’ll be very honest, in the later episodes I skipped the side characters scenes, esp the ones between the actor and the swim club friend. it just felt very left field for that couple. Was there even a need for them? The last few episodes seems to have become a studio wabi sabi trend, a crying fest, which instead of triggering sad emotions, it just makes you feel annoyed. What I do appreciate is having Dean and Pharm reprising their roles, and the series did try to keep in line with the initial storyline. I would have been more interested if the story wasn’t always on the issue of family.

Gay First Love Depicted Close To Perfection

I might be bias as I had a crush on my ex best friend and this drama is as close as I could get to see my dream come true in an ideal world.

I rarely write reviews but this has to be the best JBL that I have watched thus far. The story of falling in love with your childhood best friend, not wanting to cause the friendship to become different, in the process hurting yourself while watching your boy best friend look at others, sounds very cliche, but this is what young love as a gay guy would have to go through (I went through it myself, tho mine didn't end up the way theirs did). The way this entire show depicted Yamato's process of going through it all, was super relatable, at times for those who have went through it, would have also teared up thinking about how yours went in the past. The way that Kakeru was depicted, was really of that of a best friend who was confused about what was going on with his best friend, loving him but not knowing what love truly was, and how deep his love for him was. He wanted the best for Yamato, learning how Yamato felt, and giving himself time to process it all to consider giving Yamato a chance was beautiful. The entire situation between Yamato and Kakeru as they had a very thin line between best friends to lovers was also done really well. But what really sealed the deal was the cinematography, as usual, JBL does their subtle take on situations, which was really good. The entire lust that Yamato had for Kakeru was also really relatable (I mean, Haru is really cute also haha). Yamato not wanting to hurt Kakeru is also really endearing. Really a young gay first love being depicted really well!
