why does the chinese government expect an actor to teach people about respecting history? shouldn't that be the…
The GP and government aren't expecting him to teach people about respecting history, as far as I know, I haven't ever seen a Chinese celebrity teach their fans about history, only post commemorations as most Chinese people do.
It's simply a bare minimum expectation that just like all other Chinese people, he should respectful of the suffering and crimes committed against his people, nothing more. His ignorance is not a reflection of the education system when essentially all Chinese people thoroughly understand this history, which is exactly why it is such a stupid and ignorant mistake. The reason there is such a big reaction and boycott is *because* everyone understands the severity of the history, if the education system was flawed and didn't teach people about it, I doubt anyone would care to this degree.

Can you please explain to me why this happen now when those photos were posted years ago? Agree it was disrespectful…
Honestly, I've never followed him but I've read a lot about this and from what I've gathered it's probably because he just wasn't as big as a star as he was after WOH.

1. Back then he didn't have as many fans and eyes on him as well as not having as many antis, I don't think people really cared about him as much or followed him, and even if it was spread or people tried to spread it, it wouldn't go as far as it would today just because of his star status then compared to now.
2. After WOH its fandom supposedly created a lot of toxicity between the two main leads (read more about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/comments/p4vw94/zhang_zhehans_disaster_from_a_wohs_fan_point_of/ )
and with the girlfriend situation, he definitely gained many antis and lost some fans.

I think with the combination of reaching top-level fame in China and a brewing amount of toxicity in fandoms, some things that he or his fandom did may have set off antis, ex-fans, or even just curious netizens to do some digging and find the posts. IMO those were really just a ticking time bomb, if not found now it would be found later but it's just a really extreme situation all around.

Friendly reminder that this isn't "c-nets/c-ent being crazy or problematic" or "the CCP being insane and terrible" because though it may not seem like that big of a deal to international fans, it is in China and the response to this isn't anything out of the ordinary.
If a public figure has done things that are really disrespectful to sensitive issues, people are going to be upset, and at ZZH's point in his career, this isn't the sort of thing you can just sweep under the rug, so if you're not Chinese and don't fully understand the industry and history, please refrain from commenting on these things!

Does anybody know why YouTube recent eps and shorts are comments off?
I'm guessing its because of the subtitles from last episode. Basically there were some really badly translated lines that changed the meaning of what the cast was saying and k-pop stans on Twitter were saying Kun and Yuqi are colorist when they aren't (you can search it up, though I don't recommend it as it's just an echo chamber of people who don't know Chinese and references to Chinese culture yet claim they were saying colorist remarks).

Only Sha Yi made a colorist remark which is wrong and should be called out for but all the hate is directed towards Kun and Yuqi because people are jumping on the hate bandwagon without knowing what they were actually saying

I've been hearing a lot about this scandal or something that happened but I don't know what actually happened.…
Honestly, it's pretty complicated. There's basically two parts to the cancellation, the more widespread one is the milk wasting controversy but Tony's allegations is also one of the issues that most people have ended up brushing over.
Here's an article of what happened with focus to the milk, https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202105/1222703.shtml and another timeline of events with more focus to Tony that most news networks didn't disclose https://twitter.com/melonsanonymous/status/1390662298759360513
As a result of this, there has been a big mess with fandoms, during Tony's scandal there was a lot of shady PR work done by his team (eg. trying to drag down other trainees) and now there are two groups of people who support him and people who don't because of the scandal and or his other questionable actions.
At the moment, the top 19 trainees have not had their debut but we are getting optimistic news about the top 9 and a possible appearance in the coming month.
