I am very very picky with comedy, but I do like it when done right. And this one had a lot of heart. You see characters grow and a formation of a found family that literally went through life and death and the hardest thing of all forgiveness. And props to the art department, the ghosts rightly terrifying.
enjoyed the series. A decent watch but if your like me and watched it for the parallel world story line well you…
Let's establish that cir is not a good person, he admits it himself multiple times, say what you want he did stalk phu for 5 years, and then lied when he finally met him. He is aware of his flaws, and the darkness with in and around him. From the very start we are shown that there is darkness in him. While phus room is bright and warm its contrasted with cirs room as he opens the door into total darkness. And throughout the drama, even when using light his room is this dark blue depicting darkness, coldness and isolation. And for him phu is the light in his dark existence him being on the floor below phu's, having to look up at the warmth, as if looking at the sun. And when he is at his mothers house and goes to his pitch black room, that phone call from phu is a ray of light that showed up in his room, his world. And he goes towards it and sit in it. And even when they decided to 'play' boy friends its him going to phu's room, his warmth his light.
Why did phu not run to the hills when he found out that cir had stalked him all those years. Because with all the happy go lucky, cute and bubbliness he shows to people phu is damaged. Even though surrounded by people he is lonely. The death of his father and subsequent abandonment of his mother does have a massive impact on him. Its the darkest time of his life and we are shown this during his fathers death day anniversary, his room which is always so warm and bright, is dark with him sat in it lost, and Cir comes in turning on the light. Cir becomes phu's light in his darkness. Even though it seams he doesn't habor grudges for his mother leaving it has affected him and his biggest anxiety was this Cir, the person who has become is light leaving, the thing he asks most throughout knowing Cir was he not leave. He was angrier at the lies than the stalking becouse for him, it was oh, I wasn't alone all those years. There was someone there taking care of me.
So when stripped down its a strory of two broken individuals finding salvation in each other.
Another thing I want to talk about is the intimate scenes, like wow they told the story of their own. How tortured Cir was that he wanted Phu so bad but was so scared to have him, dreading that it was a dream. I am a sucker for ' That I want you so bad but this cant continue ' Was done so well by boss that i had to stop watching and clap. You made me.feel.that. Hope to watch more of what they will do in the future.
enjoyed the series. A decent watch but if your like me and watched it for the parallel world story line well you get an answer sort of.
At its core this is a story of two broken individuals one by abuse and repression the other by grief and loneliness, one who finds survival the other finding solace.
This is a dark piece of work dressed up as a bubbly romance, that warm light in Phu's room is rather deceptive. And I do understand why some would have rather the drama had just leaned in fully on the darker aspect of the story. But maybe another adaptation could do that. That being said I love the cinematography here and it needs to be given its flowere especially the use of light on this it so deliberate and the vusual language conveyed the main characters state of mind and also adding another layer of story telling. That really kept me hooked.
I am not going to talk about the world building or why things are or happened the way they did, or the Cir's mother how it was handled just frustrates me. Im just going to talk about the two main characters and how the lighting tells their story.
I had put it on hold until it finished airing and just took it up.and finished it now. HE to all I guess but personally it would.have been happier if dean and jack would have just stayed friends. But on the other hand thats how adult relationships are, they are messy, yes even toxic sometimes and even when you are sure that some people shouldn't be together they endup together and doing what works for them becouse they are adults making their own decisions and you as a friend, family, bystander has to respect their decision. That being said... I loved mix's performance here. I have veen with mix since a tale of a thousand stars and the growth throughout the years is just phenomenal. And Earth' character jack just had this multi layerd level of assholiness that was very well portrayed considering jack was this quiet controled and controlling with a bit of manipulative tendency. So yes those punches were deserved. I belive it's hard portraying a quiet layered character but Earth was flawless. I like both s1 and s2 they did give us different things and I guess I like them both for what they gave us.
Remeo and Julius in an underworld setting. I liked it, it was an enjoyable watch even with the normal things that irk me but I will give it a pass becouse as much as I hate tragedies I can't stay away from the whole blood debt of parents but children in love trope hoping for a different ending.
I went into this drama without any expectations just something to watch in the background, but it surprised me, I ended up watching with all my concentration becouse of the subject matter. The question of what makes a human? good and evil, power and what lengths one would go to to attain it and what they are willing to sacrifice to attain it. Questioning long held institutional beliefs. And if push comes to shove and everything you know belived and trusted is against you will you be able to stand with those weaker than you the oppressed. And what one would be willing to sacrifice to stand on that side. This show brings into focus the other side of the search for immortality( where it can be an allegory for power, wealth) , the cost it incurs on the normal hard working people the greed associated with it even though they have lived long lives they still want more. And the arrogance associated with the class, looking at normal people as lesser being there for their whims, that their lives hold no value. This is more than just a xian xia. Its an introspection on humanity and a social critique. And I loved it so much and it shows just what this genre can be used to convey.
i decided not tobrant about things that didn't meet my expectations and just look at the positive side. All I can say is I really hope all who were involved got their bags. I can see they put effort into their job. and Also thank you for the epic Ost of embers by Jing Long. took me a while but I found it. gonna look for more of his work.
There are few dramas that have my heart. and make me love almost all of the characters, this is one of them. It made me laugh, cry and a whole lot in between. This is going to be one of the very few on my rewatch list.
I couldn't finish this pas that bathroom scene. I went in knowing what the strory was about. And Im not strong enough to watch this watered down retelling. I just can imagine what those children lived and continue to live through.
Do you want your heart broken from begging to end? I mean its roght there in the title. as thorns found any where they are going to hurt. but should you watch it? absolutely. The perfomances, stellar. cinematography a feast. plot, can I just say that my heart is not ok. I really do want to watch it a second time but I am going to have to brace my self. but still you should watch it.
A drama were every minute counts. There is no wasted scene. And it might seam like like this is just a it was all in my head cop out but it not. At its core its a wonderfully written story of regret that keeps you on your toes asking your self what is going on? I also dont like those oh, it was only a dream like scenario. but with this it was written in a way that 1. there was a foreshadowing, 2 tgat foreshadowing became a mystery, so you as the viewer is trying to unravel, is it alternate time lines? time travel? clairvoyance? so your invested in the characters and the plot. Even the reveal at the end was artfully done. It wS set up more of a question. If your life was flashing through your eyes, how would you live it if you had 4 minutes? But at the very end we do get back to reality and face the consequences of our actions.
I am putting this on hold, I am at a.pont in time where heavy romance dramas dont cut it for me. I need something else to keep my attention and this is not delivering for me. may be ill want to come to it later
I can say that the actors tried. they delivered solid chemistry especially in the intimate scenes, but out of that had a lot to be desired. The story oh I hate saying this had potential. It really did. but damn........ why? It just fell flat. And some of the performances were just lacking in emotional depth. I couldn't feel it.
I just want to ask one question, do korean uni students really drink that much? and do all of them have part time…
I have seen it in dtamas but in the wrok settings. company events and stuff like that, but I hadn't seen it at this level on a university setting. And a question came up, like where do they get that much money? drinking doesn't come cheap.
7 episode in and yes, they dont disappoint on the messy messy friendship circle. Even though we dint get the everyone kissing everybody that I guess will have to lie on the iconic lands of onlyfriends S1. there is is no shortage of the amount of chaos, heart break, bad decisions and even worse actions of some of our characters. The performances are chefs kiss with earth mix leasing the charge.
This is a gem And I guess it came out when I was on a break from bl dramas. I loved the subtlety of the story…
I just want to ask one question, do korean uni students really drink that much? and do all of them have part time jobs or rich family to be able to afford that or is it coming out of the student loans?
This is a gem And I guess it came out when I was on a break from bl dramas. I loved the subtlety of the story of how it was protrayed and oh my the tension like it qas stronger than garavity pulling you in. I ended up binge watching this in one sitting which is very rare for me these days.
first of I liked the strory especially the life times. the 16th c arc? is there a well produced drama set in that period I would love to watch it. Or a well peoduced one about thai mythology ? Now, on to what made this series a chore to go through, the pacing. It was soo slooooow. It was playing at 1.5x and I still had to.fast.it.foward. It did not need to be as long as it was. the acting. I am sure they tried their best but it did not deliver. especially the main leads, I just couldn't feel it, I couldn't feel them. And it's such a bummer cuz its a story of love and fate and perseverance and longing and it felt like there was a layer of insulation preventing those feeling from reaching me. I know what I was supposed to get but every time I tried to catch them I couldn't. Hoping that their next project, if they decide to act as apair will be able to show case their talents.
