Forced myself to watch after 4 years trying. A mess and not a hot one.
I still remember the day i watched and finished We best love seaosn 1 i truly loved the series it was everything i like in a series.
Wasn't a breakthrough however a classic good school drama, a damn good one at that however, at the final episode the cracks were starting to show with thr nonsensical miscomunication when Gao shi de and Yu are both very inteligent if they flirt in code and random french. However suddenly Shu Yi was too fucking dumb to maybe think a bit 'oh that random white woman besides him was maybe his sister because his mom married an american'
The reasons for the other stuff and why he stayed so long in america yada yada all got revealed after but it just left me frustrated.
So understandably in 2022 when season 2 was said to air i was ecstatic i wanted my taiwanese-japanese cutie back however once it came out the day i tried watching an episode i faced immense dissapointment and even to that part i only got by 2x speeding theough it.
Usually im not above cheesy-ness and cliches but i just found myself saying 'what?' frustrated.
Gao shi de sees Yu of course they dont communicate at all, and then Yu tries to do his whole 'oh im gonna make him fall in love and then break his heart' routine.
This. This was the part where i started struggling badly for 4 years i just couldnt get out of my head how dumb and how much of a nothing burger these problems theyre making actualy are
Honestly the actual plot wouldnt even have been much of a problem if they backed it up and showed it in a satisfying way.
The crux of this series was PACING
Multiple times watching i thought that characters went to logical points of their relations in ways and timing that made no sense!
This realy realy bothered and destroyed it for me it especialy showed in the dad he was genuinely a horrid father he cost Shu yi and Gao shide 5 fucking years and did THE MOST like even when Shu Yi and Gao got together again and were cool he continued
Things left unadressed we the viewers were led to believe that the person who paid Lin to hack the Alpa code was Shu Yi's father which caused a tremendous setback and genuinely could have been the end of Gao shi de. And then they litteraly never mention it again after lin is caught he never apologised but then suddenly 'gao shide wants to cook for you' and Yu's father suddenly starts joking with gao shide about sushi and shit. Im not even the most big brain viewer but come on! I genuinely felt insulted nothing madr logical sense.
Sorry but if Yu genuinely loves Gao shi de to the point were led to believe in my opinion he would have madd up with his father but would have pressed more because what Shu yis dad did was SERIOUS.
And such things continued even with Pei shou yi and Xun. Last thing i see of them is Shou yi confessing he cant feel shit and pushing Xun away as he did all thr countless times before and then the next scene of theirs theyre suddenly lovey dovey with each other patting his hair and shit like????? Genuinely terrible.
This series i can kind of remember but its a jumbled mess in my head.
Im even more mad because i think the actors were great.
GSD and SY are such charismatic peopel especialy shu yi's actor.
I enjoyed bing wei and zhe yu however they unfortunately were just there and added nothing substsncial they were only therr to serve as plot ppints for when a character is needed to interact with thr msin two in a way. Such wasted potential. A shame.
Zhen xun and shou yi were okay however they also werent the most exciting of a story, an average elementary student with a partner would probably have a more exciting and thrilling story to tell.
Honestly up until they started showing the flashbacks it was super eh. I didnt feel much for them yeah they were kinds cute, but litteraly every scene thry were on they did the same shit ZX approaching PSY and getting rejected and rinse and repeat.
I felt the baby turn the lights off meme when they started showing the flashbacks and i started getting more invested into the story even though they only show like 2 flashbacks alltogether.
Ah, just a super big shame. It took me a long time to just get it over with and i wish i could have praised it im writting this review at 4 am and i still sigh.
