Surprising Gem

You know to be honest I didn’t think I’d like this series but for some reason the title had me hooked right from the start and wasn’t I surprised. Let’s face it this is not your normal run of the mill drama but it’s definitely engaging and the plot has a depth that in some parts was seriously disturbing. Now this may seem a strange thing to say about a series that I enjoyed but the diverse twists and turns are what kept me enthralled. It’s the darker aspects of the story that could have been taken from the lives of so many talented artists that didn’t manage to find their way through the quagmire that is fame and inevitably they fell victim to the course their lives had taken and the choices they had made. Thankfully it’s not all doom and gloom and some episodes were so farcical that I had to laugh at what was happening. At face value this story might have been nothing more than a crazy ride but the quality of the acting, particularly from the ML Wei Da Xun and the sensitivity he brought to the part made it so much more than what it might have been. Is this a drama for everyone? Probably not but the deeper elements touched on so many areas such as reincarnation, drug use and the importance of staying true to oneself despite what life throws your way kept me thoroughly engaged. All in all it was a pleasant surprise but be prepared the ending is quirky, swift and very unorthodox. Pretty much like the start really. Anyway I hope you enjoy it too.
