Alchemy of jokes

I am still processing how the drama with such critical theme like alchemy of souls turned into a silly childish romance!! This season was pure mockery of the shadow assassin girl that we fell in love with in season 1.
It was better if naksu had died than coming back in such a miserable way. The new FL should’ve been buyeon herself not naksu with amnesia. Trying to turn her into naksu where she easily could’ve had her own identity and be a completely different character is what went wrong in this season. Two souls in one body was total nonsense.
Another big fallback is the plot, ML just let jin mu be that easily !!! Very well knowing that he used naksu as a puppet. He should’ve avenged naksu but instead his actions made no sense and had no purpose. How killing soul shifters served any purpose to him or naksu !!!
And he fell for the new FL without knowing that she was naksu, he got over her and moved on just like that. 😭 Meanwhile, yul was living in soo much pain and guilt because he couldn’t help her and do anything. Yul emerged as a true lover here. He was planning to die along with her meanwhile our ML was busy getting lovey dovey with new FL.

This season is not just average it’s bad in every way possible compared to season 1. I wish I can go back choose to not watch it and had made peace with naksu’s death in season 1.

Kdrama version of all that glitters is not gold

I usually watch kdrama after checking it’s rating and Lovely runner has 9.2 rating!! I have completed watching the show and am shocked as it’s rating is same as twinkling watermelon( that show is a legit masterpiece) and lovely runner doesn’t even come close to it. Still wondering what made people give this show such a high rating. The show feels like a low budget time travel.

I am sorry but story was average and execution was below average. There were soo many timelines but hardly any character development in those timelines. Sol goes back in past many times and still can’t get things right. It felt like she didn’t care about her disability that much and was just obsessed with ML. She wasn’t in love with him in the beginning so why was she acting as his long lost lover.
Her actions made no sense and left me plain confused in the beginning episodes. I was expecting more because she is the FL not just any other character.

I have no issue with the SunJae as he was clueless and such a sweetheart. I kept watching the show for him.
The serial killer guy made no sense to me till the end. He was used only to drag the story as there was nothing else to add in the plot. The supporting characters weren’t used that much and felt irrelevant at times. The show could’ve been made more exciting by adding thrilling factors in it as time travel is soo vast and have multiple dimensions in it. I feel like the excitement factor was not there. The show is not bad but just not worth the hype and definitely not worth the rating.

Healing drama doesn’t have to be this gloomy !

It’s okay to not be okay is often reviewed as a healing drama but is healing soo dark and depressing? I can’t say thou.
I keep trying to find a healing element in the show but all I could find was gloominess and some redemption. The main lead couple shared a dark past and it is too messy for them to fall in love .. like hey my mother killed your mother but let’s get past that and become a family !!! Something soo unsettling about their bond.
Even thou it wasn’t FL’s fault what her mother did but her aura was quite similar to her mother.

The female lead had serious anger issues the way she pushed a guy off stairs and almost stabbed someone. She either act like a 5 year old with tantrums or like a psychopath . No in between. She practically forced male lead to live with her. Almost everything about her annoyed me as a viewer.

The autistic brother was quite a special character, ML went through a lot in order to raise his brother. I felt for the ML as his struggle was realistic portrayal of someone taking care of an autistic person. And on top of that he had to take care of the crazy FL as well. His hands were full and he hardly had any life of his own. FL added more to his troubles and not less. So I don’t understand how the ML was benefiting in any way from the relationship.

There were quite some boring episodes in between. I watched it till the end for the sake of finishing it not because it was very interesting.

Music was great. And gang tae is a hottie.

2nd lead syndrome peaked here

There aren’t many admirable historical fantasy k-dramas but alchemy of souls definitely stands out.. The story is interesting and full of surprises. Even thou it’s not a comedy drama but it was hilarious at times.
But I am writing this review to pour my heart out and rant even thou i haven’t started season 2 yet.
First of all, Jang Uk our ML is given everything on
a sliver platter, whether it was power or women. He just keeps getting lucky. The writers spoon fed his character too much. If it weren’t for mudok, he wouldn’t have gotten anywhere on his own. Simply put i wasn’t a fan of the ML. I liked the FL more, her acting was superb and she made us fall in love with mudok. She ate and left no crumbs.

My next rant is regarding the pitiful love triangle, we know 2nd lead never gets the girl/guy regardless of how much they try. Seo yul was no exception, his fate was to get heartbroken .. My heart ached for him and i am soo mad at the writers for doing so. They could’ve brought a proper love interest for yul but no…he was hung up on naksu and his feelings were to remain one sided.!!!! The scene where mudok and yul are on the bridge looking at each other and he put her hand on his heart, it gave me chills. It was soo intense and the music in the background is soo heartwarming that was when I started shipping them together.

It’s soo hard for me to enjoy the show seeing yul get hurt like that. I wanted him to end up with the FL soo badly that it made me lose focus on whatever was going on in the show. I am sure I am not the only one who felt this way.the 2nd lead syndrome hit soo hard here.
