 About Me

•   I started watching Asian dramas (mainly Korean) back in 2020 just before the Covid lockdown, and since then, my obsession with them has only grown.

•  The first ever K-Drama I watched was "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim

•  The drama that had stuck in my mind for a while was Reply 1988.

•  My go-to genres are action, romance, rom-com, and thriller.

• My main focus was on K-dramas, but I am starting to get into Chinese, Thai and Japanese dramas.

•  As of now (2024), I've watched enough dramas to be considered an expert, haha. I'm still going strong; however, I've become much pickier about what I watch after watching so many.

•  Now that I've watched or seen most of the K-Dramas out, I'm mostly checking out a lot of different variety shows and rewatching some of my old-time favourites that never get boring, no matter how many times I watch them.

Smile, You (2009)

One of the best things about "Smile, You" (2009) is how it brings two completely different families together under one roof due to money problems, creating a mix of funny and touching moments that keep you hooked through all 45 episodes. That's quite a lot of episodes, so the drama really needs to be good to hold your attention.

I really liked how the romance between Jung Kyung-ho and Lee Min-jung's characters grew over time. It felt natural and not forced, allowing me to really engage with their relationship. The focus on family was also great, with lots of quirky characters to keep things fun. Having 45 episodes gave plenty of room for everyone to grow and for the story to deepen, even though some side plots dragged on a bit too long.

I really connected with the focus on family, reconciliation, and building connections. Yes, there were some annoying bits, such as the rich, spoiled parents that made me want to scream, and the granddad who was always treated like a doormat, but the gradual character development made it all worthwhile. It's funny how the character I hated the most, the father of the female lead, turned out to be my favourite by the end of the drama, thanks to the way he matured as a parent. In contrast, I couldn't stand the mother of the female lead, who became even more immature as time went on.

Overall, I usually avoid dramas with so many episodes because I get bored easily, but this one kept me interested the whole time. I'd start watching, and before I knew it, I was halfway through. When it ended, I felt a bit empty inside. This drama is my all-time favourite and will easily take the top spot in my top three list. It has set high standards for me, so it will be quite difficult for any other drama to top this one for a while. I hadn't felt that fist-clenching kind of excitement from a romantic scene in a long time. If you're thinking about dropping this drama because of the annoying characters... don't, It's totally worth enduring a little suffering.

Just Between Lovers / Rain or Shine

•   The drama is all about these characters going through some really tough times, like dealing with trauma and loss and trying to heal and find redemption. You connect with their struggles and emotions very quickly.

•   The drama has this real and emotional story where the characters deal with tough stuff like trauma and loss while trying to heal and find redemption. You can feel their struggles and emotions and makes it a gripping watch.

•   The chemistry between Lee Jun-ho and Won Jin-ah is so good! Their on-screen relationship feels totally genuine and adds loads of depth to the story. I can literally watch this drama so many times; I've already re-watched it twice (so three times in total), and it still never gets boring.

Overall, this drama effortlessly secures the top spot on my list. It's the kind of drama that moved me to tears for the first time in my drama-watching journey (and I'm not one to cry easily). The drama is flawless in every aspect. It perfectly fits my preference for dramas where the leads help each other heal from their past pains. I've revisited it multiple times, and it never fails to stir up emotions. It's undoubtedly my go-to drama when I'm in the mood for a good cry.

Dream High
•   is all about this cool high school where kids are chasing their dreams of becoming K-pop idols, actors, or musicians. It's got everything - love stories, friendships, and some serious competition. And let me tell you, it's super addictive!

•   The cast is amazing! You've got your favourite actresses like Suzy, and IU, plus some talented actors like Kim Soo-hyun and Taecyeon. They really bring the characters to life, making you feel like you're right there with them on their journey.

•   The drama isn't just about fame and fortune. It's also about never giving up on your dreams, no matter how tough things get. It's inspiring, it's heartfelt, and it'll make you want to chase your own dreams too!

Overall, "Dream High" holds a respectable position at third place in my drama rankings, a noteworthy achievement considering I've watched a total of 281 dramas so far. Having already revisited it twice, it's clear that this captivating series holds a special place in my heart, and I'm already looking forward to experiencing its magic once again in the future.

The Great Escape: S2

Running Man
•   Great Vibes Among the Cast: When you watch "Running Man," you can't help but notice the awesome chemistry between the cast members like Yoo Jae-suk, Lee Kwang-soo, Ji Suk-jin, Kim Jong-kook, and the rest. Their playful banter and inside jokes create loads of laugh-out-loud moments that'll have you cracking up every time.

•   Celebrity Guests: "Running Man" also often brings in famous faces to join the cast, spicing up the show with extra fun. It's a blast seeing your favourite stars jump into the action alongside the regular crew, adding a whole new vibe to the episode.

•   Mix of Challenges: The show throws everything from crazy physical tasks to mind-bending games and hilarious missions into the mix. It's this mix of challenges that keeps each episode feeling exciting and fun, catering to all sorts of interests.

Overall, this variety show is the best I've seen so far. My dedication to watching as many episodes as possible during Covid-19 was intense. I managed to watch over 150 episodes in just one month since I couldn't leave my house. My obsession with the show was unlike anything I'd felt before. Even though I stopped watching after Lee Kwang-soo left (he was my ultimate favourite in the show), I'd still easily rank it as number one. It's unlikely that any other show will ever take its place, although I can't say it's impossible, haha.

I am SOLO
•   Genuine Participants: On the show, you'll meet real folks figuring out life on their own. Their honest chats and thoughts give you a peek into the ups and downs of modern dating and relationships.

•   Refreshing Twist: The show also stands out from typical dating shows by highlighting people who embrace solitude and self-exploration. It's all about celebrating independence and personal growth, giving relationships and dating a whole new vibe.

•   Successful Matches: The show has a track record of bringing couples together and even leading to marriages, showcasing the power of genuine connections formed through self-discovery.

So, over the past year or two, I've been pretty obsessed with Korean and Chinese dating shows. After watching loads of dramas, I was craving something different—something genuinely romantic, not just scripted drama. That's when I stumbled upon dating shows, and let me tell you, I was hooked. I ended up binge-watching pretty much every dating show out there.

But here's the thing: most Korean dating show contestants are just in it for the fame, which kind of bummed me out. Then along came "I Am Solo" This show is a whole new level. With over 100 episodes and more than 8 couples either married or engaged, and possibly some dating, its success rate is off the charts. That success really impressed me and bumped "I Am Solo" to my second favourite variety show. I seriously doubt any other dating show will ever top it.

The Great Escape - Season 2
•   Exciting Escapes: This show throws some seriously thrilling escape room challenges your way. With each episode, you get a fresh storyline and a bunch of puzzles to crack. It's like being on a rollercoaster of suspense and excitement!

•   Top-Notch Production: The show also has amazing production. They've got high-quality sets, props, and special effects that suck you right into the challenges. Plus, the way they tell the story and design the games is super creative and visually stunning.

•   Fun Cast Chemistry: Kim Dong-hyun, alongside other cool cast members like Kang Ho-dong, Lee Sang-min, and Yoo Byung-jae, brings a whole mix of talents and vibes to the show. Their awesome chemistry and banter make each episode super entertaining and keep you hooked from start to finish.

So, to wrap things up, "The Great Escape" landed in third place on my list for some pretty neat reasons. It's not just about the nail-biting challenges or the awesome cast; it's those unexpected moments that really make it stand out. Take Kim Dong-hyun, for instance. He's the last person you'd expect to get scared easily, but his reactions are just hilarious. His funny antics add a whole new level of enjoyment to the show. As you can probably tell, my favourite member was Kim Dong-hyun. (He really stole the show for me!)
