Yeah, no. Where I am even his price is actually very expensive. You can rent a decent sized apartment close to the city center for that, average for one room apartment (a room and a kitchen) is 500$. But then 2 grand a month is a high paying job, was decent even with the old exchange rate.
Gu Wei does seem like he's not very concerned with money, so he's probably not the norm. Though Idk if it's all his own income, or he's like a part time trust fund baby or something. His cousin certainly is a full time one LOL

Yeah, in all my time renting apartments, I kind of assumed that the price was final and if I don't like, I just look for something else.
He seemed a bit uncomfortable with the price there, but maybe I'm seeing things. Lol

I never understood those kind of situations in movies and tv shows, as one that Gu Wei got himself into at the end of episode 9. Just say there's someone waiting for you and that you'll come home later, wtf. At the very last, he should have told Lin Zhixiao to wait at home, until he calls, instead of letting her go to the agency alone. It's obvious that going home to talk to dad is not a five minute delay. It's like half an hour+

Finally had the time to catch up to ep 9. So far pretty good, very funny actually. Gu Wei and his quirky attempts at showing he cares crack me up every time lol. He's like "I'll treat you to a meal", but then "eat your porridge young lady" and I'm dead laughing.
Second couple is kind of boring, they got better in the last episodes, but I'm still not all that interested.
It is kind of disappointing that Gao what's her name is so typical. Would have been nice if they made her a little more likeable, but as it is when they inevitably make her move on later on, I would only say good riddance.
I do like the pace and the way everything is progressing, but I hope we won't fall into the standard "get together in the first 10 episodes, mack through misunderstandings for the rest of the show" type of routine.

Well, you have to take average income into account. Idk, what it is in China's big cities, but if we judge by the drama: Gu Wei is an upper class (we know that watch was not fake) and he still thought it was expensive, so I'd say average person probably wouldn't be able to afford it.

I understand her point of view, but her behavior was also very childish. Sure, we can say that she is young and scared for her father, but I felt she went a bit too far there. Wanting to get a second opinion, because the bad news terrify you is one thing. Insulting someone's intelligence and character because of some overheard rumor and the fact that he did not help you when you accosted him in a bar (while drunk of your a**) is another thing entirely. That Gu Wei still took the time to talk to her and patiently explain, shows that he's a lot more mature than she is. Mind you, I agree that there's nothing to be annoyed about, people make mistakes and speak rashly, especially when they are scared. But she didn't just "not side with him", she actually insulted him behind his back and that was pretty bad. She also did not properly apologize for it.

Then, thank God there will be a full version available. Kindergarten hand holding romance between two adults always looks so silly.

WeTv posted that TV version might be censored more. 1st episode is probably the same because there was nothing to cut out, but later episodes might be different.

Wow, they are saying that TV version will actually have cuts in it. Didn't they already go through censorship? What more are they going to cut out, I wonder.

The first episode exceeded expectations! I looove characters like Gu Wei, and Lin Zhixiao does not seem like a typical airhead, that c-dramas like to use as FL. The chemistry is not even worth talking about, we knew it would be trough the roof.

What he did by starting those rumors about them was really dangerous. I know it does not seem like it from our open minded 21st century point of view, but remember that it was the early 20th century China. Same sex relationships were considered a crime, that you can be arrested for, even outside of China at the time. Yes their friends are taking it lightly, but the fact is that if the situation escalated they would have been either arrested or she would have been exposed and kicked out of the academy. He just doesn't care about the consequences because he's a rich boy used to daddy bailing him out and also because he does not care if he's kicked out of the academy. But she actually does, if she thought Shen Jushan was so wrong, she would not have gone so easily. But Yanzhen didn't even consider that her changing rooms might mean that he went too far and she wanted to get attention off herself, he just went straight to throwing a temper tantrum. I don't dislike Gu Yanzhen, but he needs to grow the f up. There is nothing cute or romantic when a man acts like a spoiled child.

I do like this drama, it was slow going for me, but I still think it's very good. The story is interesting, acting is top notch and most importantly the way it manages to introduce a lot of characters and make them interesting, without overwhelming you is a standard a lot of newer dramas seem to ignore sadly. I also liked all of the leads (all of the characters really) and was actually rooting for Gu Yanzhen, even with all of his goofiness and arrogance. But ep 38 just killed his character for me. His man-child melodrama about her... Moving to a Different Room was so over the top ridiculous, I can't take him seriously anymore. He was acting like someone told him she's getting married and moving to another country. Wtf? She moved down the corridor after he did everything in his power to embarrass her in front of everyone and start nasty rumors, and now He's the one who's hurt? Wow. No words.

Yesss! Modern drama, well 70s, but still pretty close and not military. Looking forward to it. XZ and LQ make a good combo.

Well, I mean one where they actually interact. They don't have a single scene together in JOL and I dropped FBS after maybe 5 eps, but I think there's also not much there either.

Or maybe you should just open weibo and see for yourself that all the performances were there and tencent actually posted ace troops cast performance, even thogh it's IQYI's drama and no one would expect tencent to promote it.

He also has other things he's nominated for this year, like DC and ADLAD, which is, imo, so much better than this whole king and queen thing. It's all still a popularity contest, mind you, but it's nicer when it's also about the work and not only popularity.
