It's not the worst, really. If you ask me: Between MDL and Douban, which rating system sucks, I would always pick MDL.

Like really, I have seen some of the best c-dramas out there get only around 8.0-8.5, and some barely passable dramas get 8.7-8.8 (I haven't watched this drama yet, so I'm not saying this drama is barely passable, I'm waiting for the drama to complete its entire run before binge-watching it. Big fan of the novel, so I'm very positive the drama is also very good.)
If the ML or FL of the drama have more fans and very few haters, they usually get higher ratings even if the drama is barely passable. Some of the dramas with lesser-known ML and FL with negligible haters also get higher ratings if the drama is super good (best examples The Double and Blossom, and I think I can count this particular drama in that category. I'm including The Double in this category because at that time, WXY was considered one of the lesser-known actors. WJY, while she is famous in China, she doesn't seem to have that kind of pull in the international audience). If ML or FL of a drama are famous, but also have dedicated haters who create fake accounts and make it their life to just downrate the drama, that drama is bound to have a low rating even if the drama is very good.
Passersby ratings are basically negligible on MDL, and that is sad. Their ratings are often more unbiased.
Oh crap!! I just realized Wu Jinting is also in this drama (just watched a short video clip and felt like I saw this actor somewhere, which led me to investigate and find out). I was basically visiting this drama site almost every day since it was announced, and I never once noticed it, lol.
I really liked him in Time and Him Are Just Right. He was the ML in that drama, and he's got a very good voice.
Must say, this drama is packed with a super strong supporting cast.

Another interesting point I noticed in those first 3-4 chapters.
ML's aunt is Consort Mei, and FL's sister is the Empress.
Both in the Imperial Harem, and it is strongly implied in the novel that the Empress and Consort Mei are xoxoxo, together putting a green hat on the Emperor lol.
This match was suggested by Consort Mei to the Empress.

FL was initially opposed to it, as she did for numerous marriage proposals her Empress Sister brought forward. She always made sure these marriage proposals fell through after meeting the prospective grooms. She wanted to do the same for ML, but after seeing him at his work (she was in her cat form), she felt she can marry him.
I only read first 3-4 chapters, and all of this is covered in those chapters itself.

Agree with everything except the last line 😂. Xu Kai ain't no big traffic star. His company never buys hot search for him, nor do they promote him much. Every bit of popularity he has now, he got with his own hard work.

Getting a 7.1 is equivalent to a 9 on MDL.
Getting a 5.5 is equivalent to a 8 on MDL.
