I'm glad you brought that into discussion! The Hong sisters do like to use Deus ex machina ("fate") as a plot device a lot. They write for the masses and focus on entertainment. They do sprinkle some brilliant stuff every now and then, but they're usually unserious.
I totally understand that you're not into that kind of thing. I love intricate plots and beautiful scriptwriting as well, but I also like this kind of unserious work. High fantasy is hard to pull off, and to make it more digestible to the masses they do compromise the writing.

It's not that he doesn't want her to use the sword. He said that as a warning, if she ever uses the sword to be the assassin she used to be he'll kill her. He wants to help her but only if she decides to be a good girl.
