Not that it would bring much, because things had already happened. However, once again, he let his wife but most importantly Anna change his mind. He does not want to accept how deep his feelings are and trying to have a wife he feels gratitude for and a woman he fell in love with is not a good idea. And that's without the past history that's still hidden.
