I finished reading the book. As a child, I wouldn't be able to appreciate the beauty, metaphors and morals. So much is expressed in just a few pages. I recommend reading the book, it's very short but meaningful. Amazon Kindle for the win.
It teaches why to love, how to love and build trust, to be responsible with love, how sometimes we must part with love, and how to cherish those memories. So gorgeous.
Now, I understand the part when Yao Yao asked him when he was coming home. She was being "tamed", anticipating his return. "If he comes at 4 in the afternoon", she will "begin to be happy at 3."
Also, Song Ren Ling loosely resembles 2 characters. One that only knows how to work, to follow orders, unable to rest. Another that knows data but has never enjoyed the items of her knowledge. Gu Zijun allowed her to step back and enjoy the sunrises.
Eta: The Little Prince visited many planets. One had an extremely vain man (SSL) and another has a guy who only knows business (Jiang Nan Xuan?). His hate of mushrooms is even there. He met a man who only knows numbers but didn't know love or how to enjoy the stars. Turns out, he wasn't a man at all. He was a mushroom! Lol
And the ending OST about "which star did you come from". Everything links to this book.

My pleasure! I never read "Le Petit Prince" either so I was very excited to discover the story. I ordered it on Amazon, I haven't had a chance to finish it, but I did read a few pages. What a lovely and precious story! And the way the drama connects to it is gorgeous. For all its faults, this drama is very unique in the attention and symbolism from the creators. The actors did a great job. Too bad not many people have discovered this special little drama.

Wow, now I am starting to recognize all the symbolism throughout the drama. Yao Yao is the Rose with tenderness underlying her silly pretensions. The astronomy theme is present throughout. Each time they are together, the BGM is a French melody. The opening OST also has a French vibe. Le Petit Prince is why Yao Yao lives in a florist shop, and JCC lives in a cave aka volcano like structure. She represents florals and life. Her toy doll was a Little Prince, his frog is a Prince.
When she is upset, she tends to her plants, rejuvenating them. He is her plant, she energizes him and literally sprayed him with her water bottle when he asked her to move in. She serves him flowers to drink. He decorates her room with roses, floral perfume, dried flowers, abstract floral art, and a cozy flower blanket. At the airport, they broke up because he thought she betrayed him, like how the Prince felt about the Rose. He waited for her with the largest bouquet of roses possible at the amusement park. When she moved into his home, she wore a rose colored coat, bringing life to his dreary, lonely existence.
The story starts with the narrator showing an illustration. Adults see it as a "hat". Children see "a snake has eaten an elephant". Whimsical and dark metaphors of life. This drama is like it in that there is more than meets the eye. "The heart sees what the eyes can't". What else have I missed?

It was her gift to apologize for failing to show that she loved him. But was it also to say good-bye to him? To tell him to explore the world, she doesn't want him to waste his time protecting her?
Now I get it... But then danger happened, she knew she can't lose him. Episode 18, He replicated the snow globe to say The Little Prince has returned to his Rose. She is his star, his home, his love, that he has always been looking for. He protects her, but she also protects him. Unfortunately, now The Little Prince is gone (Episode 21, after his death in the car crash, she learns that he remembered their childhood with his Andromeda gift. The card is The Rose on one side, the Prince on the other). Can she really laugh with him when she looks at the stars?

For those that don't know the story, like myself, here is a summary of it:
The Little Prince fell in love with a spirited rose, he protected her by placing her in a globe to care for her. However, he felt that she was using him and vowed to leave Planet B612 to explore Earth. The Rose apologizes for failing to show that she loved him. She wishes him well on his journey and says she doesn't have to be in his globe anymore, she will try to take care of herself. He laments not knowing how to love her. After meeting many people, The Little Prince learns that his Rose was indeed special because she is the object of his love and that he had "tamed" her. "Tamed" means "to create ties", to need each other. He realizes he should have judged her by her actions, how she perfumed his planet and lit up his life, how he should have realized her tenderness underlying her silly pretensions. He wishes to go back to her.
A snake will allow him to leave Earth to go back to Planet B612. He tells his friend, the narrator, not to worry. His body would only look dead because it's too heavy to carry back to the planet. Narrator doesn't want him to leave. Consoling him, The Little Prince has a present for him. He says:
"When you look up at the sky at night, since I will be living on one of them, since I will be laughing on one of them, for you, it will be like all the stars are laughing. You'll have stars that can laugh"
The stars can laugh and he hopes that the narrator will always laugh when he looks at the stars. The Little Prince allows the snake to bite him. The narrator never finds his body but continues to search.
Note: Potential spoiler alert, but if you watched the first 15 minutes of the show you would already know this…
It's because of censorship. Fantastical elements need a realistic explanation in China. Other examples include "Joy of Life" and "The Day of Becoming You". There was an interview with screenwriter and she said they had to add in that part later in order to pass the review. It stinks, especially for the writer who put so much work into it.
But if you can overlook that forced censorship, it's a good story. The leads have good chemistry and the relationship is very supportive. Comedy is witty.
It looks like it isn't really cut... their prob gonna show us the morning after in ep 19
The BTS had a lot more scenes going up the stairs and against their favorite wall. Poor actors went up and down those death trap stairs so many times. 😂 Perhaps, they may show the bed part, but that may be too racy for censors. Hope we get the nose rub.
