In the scene right before when he’s talking to fans in a different livestream, he tells them that he’s not turning on the donate button (where viewers can give him money), but that they came tune in to his upcoming performance (i.e. support him by watching his art).

Wow, you hit the nail on the head in terms of what I was feeling too. I watched a few episodes to not be quick to judgment but I was legit getting an uncanny valley feeling with the acting, just feels too over the top and inhuman. I’m sure that was 100% intentional on the director’s part though, which….yep. Also yesss the older guy gives off such creepy vibes when he smiles and the younger guy is almost too shy/self-conscious. Once I started watching the show as if it were a caricature intended to make fun of other shows like it, it got better.

When there is no one let it comment and fight remember this post hon. Actual, since it’s so inevitable, just bring on all the data centers instead. Terrible kisses, terrible plot, AI slop editing (why are all the signs in freaking Korean when they’re speaking Chinese???). Story sounds good from the summary but the execution is just not there. Oddly enough the chemistry and dynamic of the two main leads wasn’t bad until they were asked to kiss, which was like watching actors with were asked to kiss wart covered frogs. If you don’t wanna kiss a man, don’t audition for a BL, it’s that simple.

Hugely childish take. You’d care if you were living next to a data center sucking up all the water and polluting the air. What drives AI is usage and if people don’t watch AI shows, then companies will stop making them.

Man this show was so good. I can’t help but agree with all the bromance/romance comments though. Like, someone mentioned it felt like one of those older Chinese BLs, turned bromance that was one kiss scene away from being banned, and I just can’t unsee that reality now 😂

You didn’t! They completely flattened his character to create drama and it started way before that scene, back when the wishes messed up and He Xiang Yong cornered him while on his bike. At that point he knew wishes existed and something was going wrong with his. Then this random guy who he doesn’t know comes up to him and starts ranting about wishes and as opposed to being like, “Holy shit, how do you know about this? Who are you? What’s going on here?,” he dismissively calls He Xiang Yong a lunatic and then drives away. His response in that scene made zero sense and his character has been shitty ever since that episode. Like forget, best friend dynamics, how could someone ever tell another person, “Well, maybe you don’t deserve to exist” and that person not be considered the shittiest human being ever???

To My Shore used B-rolls of Thailand because that’s where the story in the show took place. Yes, it’s a bit weird that everyone is speaking Mandarin for the most part, but the show is definitely set in Thailand in the beginning.

It might explain the craziness but not the rudeness, though maybe that’s explained by the age part. Even still, it does make the first few episodes difficult to watch, but it’s good to hear that he mellows out cause he’s honestly a holy terror in the first few episodes. I mean who pushes someone into the water and then is nonchalant toward them when they say they can’t swim??

Unfortunately no. I’m on the 3rd episode now and it’s still the same. The Klao/Nakun character is still especially annoying. I really don’t understand his motivations at all. He’s in a foreign time era where he doesn’t understand the customs or practices and instead of trying to blend in and stealth learn how to get home, he keeps acting out, shouting about the future and needing to get home, and being rude to the people trying to help. Like how does he not realized this just makes him seem crazy to the people of that time? He also keeps trying to run away, but to where I don’t know cause he has no money, no other connections, and no idea where to go. It’s dumb, it’s so dumb, and I feel like I’m in the minority with this thought process with the way everyone keeps raving about this show.

Production companies in China can make BLs as long as they only release them to international audiences. Shows such as these are banned from Chinese entertainment platforms in China.

NC is short for NC-17. It is the highest movie restriction rating and means “No children 17 and under”. R rated movies means that it is restrict and usually children need to be accompanied but an adult, but with NC-17, it means that children should not watch at all.

You nailed it! Your review of the series completely mirrors everything I felt about it. I'm a bit less generous though giving that I'd probably have rated it a 3 (or 2.5 if I wanted to be picky). I somehow managed to get through the entire show too since I also admired the effort, but so many things left me confused, including how and when the two main characters managed to fall madly in love with each other.

I feel the exact same way. Like I read the manhwa years ago and can barely remember the point and the show isn't making that any easier. It's super disjointed like there's a huge piece of story missing.

Countries can have different ideas about what makes someone "old" without that having anything to do with changing what middle age actually is. In China, women at 27 who are childless and unmarried are considered old and called "sheng nu" or leftover women. This is China's specific concept of what makes a woman old, but does that mean a 27 year old woman should be considered middle aged or leftover?

Maybe this decided to keep it short cause of the movie.

It's so sad. To literally say that you don't want to understand the person that you are dating...that had to have been so painful for Kiyoi. Like I don't even understand Hira. Most people in even normal fandoms would give up their first born to be in a relationship with an idol that they love and admire. Hira quite literally has the heart of the one he loves and worships yet he'd rather throw it away for the continued fantasy of who he thinks Kiyoi is. It's baffling.
