I guess the obvious choice would be TTJ from being a pitiful hostage prince in the beginning to the all-knowing DG at the end. His looks and his world view changed drastically. Frankly, all of the main characters went through challenges so all of them showed a different image in the end to indicate their growth.

The suffix -gate is from Nixon's Watergate scandal of the United States in the early 1970s. We can attach it to anything resembling a scandal. In TTEOTM, it's the plotline with the poisoning of the porridge by YBC that caused a huge irreversible rift between TTJ and YXW/LSS which started the beginning of their end in the Jing kingdom.
