It's not about that. People are upset that actors said it's "pure love" and "it doesn't matter if it's between two man or man and woman", when in manga it was important that they are both gay man. It sounds like the actors are ashamed of BL tag, and that maybe TV Tokyo made changes to erase their sexual identity.
I still hope that it was unfortunate wording on actors side, but I'm not so exited about it anymore. 😞
