Jiang Ci is Prince Qi's and the dead Yan sister's daughter. Prince Qi and the current emperor were brothers. Prince Qi was meant to be the one to succeed the throne and he was known to be wise and puts the common people/peace above all else. The current emperor wanted the throne for himself so set a plot to have Prince Qi killed, put the blame on Yue Luo and its city lord then (Wei Zhao's father), and also ended up involving Wei state (since it was spread that the Yan sisters were spies from Wei state). He basically hit like 3 birds with 1 stone.

Jiang Ci's master is actually her aunt and her master managed to escape with her and hid her for 20 years. And yes, there are people also out to get Jiang Ci as her being alive is a threat to the current emperor.

Yes, I think this drama did really well with the shift in their relationships. I think the entire cast did so well with their micro expressions that any "major" changes weren't surprising because it was already set up to begin with.

I adore her. A lot of the drama watchers on C-side are praising her too. Despite her being in a ML-centric revenge drama, her character is more "big female lead" than a lot of the other FL-centric dramas that sold themselves as "big female lead". The way she has her own ideals, how she treats others, her side development that we are seeing with her medical skills, etc. She has her own arc, and it is very clearly laid out.

Politics is the main focus; the romance is slow burn, but it is written really well IMO and it really demonstrates the intersection between politics and the feelings that slowly develop. It is one of those drama where you really can't speed the episode because you did miss a lot of plot points.

We don't really know yet at this point. But it seems like General Lu felt like he neglected his son a lot. Andddd based on episode 19, what the emperor said lowkey sounded like a threat about taking the son out for a walk.
