He doesn't have the health to inherit the military rank and his sister straight out tells him the FL isn't good enough for him and he better forget about her RFN (and he puts her in danger if he doesn't).
Whattt??? Are you sure itās not only in the novel?
Well, in the last episode, his right hand man talks about arranging a "new" marriage for him so presumably he was married before and something happened to his wife. And he is at an age where it would be odd for him not to have been married during the time they are living in.
Don't worry this director editing for Generation to Generation was also not great. But moonlit reunion was decent,…
The editing for Generation for Generation wasn't great but at least the story was consistent and coherent, even though I still preferred the novel ending. But at least they laid enough pipe that the show ending made sense for the characters as they were presented in the show. Which is why ultimately Generation to Generation worked. Which was not the case for this disaster of a show.
So basically, the real ML Gu Chao Xi died during the attack in the wolf pit because of Wenshuang. The ML with…
I thought that initially but then the scene that they show during the wedding where the ML stops Gu Zhao Xi's carriage before it is attacked does not make sense. So by the time Gu Zhao Xi's carriage is attacked the ML is the one in it and he is the one put into the pit. And Wenshuang does not actually see what happens to the person in the pit, he walks away.
The person with the scar could be Gu Zhao Xi, in which case he is dead. Or he could be a fake, and the real Gu Zhao Xi could be safe somewhere, in which case it is an even happier ending. It's unclear.

I tried looking for it in the three languages I speak :), but I can't find a complete copy, only parts of it, and I don't want to get invested unless I am sure I have a complete copy.

I suppose that's fair enough, but even with this actress, they still didn't have to make the narrative choices that they did and end the story the way they did. This is on the screenwriter and the director.

I would have liked to read the novel but I can't find a complete English translation.
I understand that mountains of corpses happen in novels, I have come across them a few times :). But somehow they don't translate onto screens very well (which is probably why you don't see them). In Princess Agents the ice lake fight scene was very well done, it was realistic, impactful, touching and heartbreaking at the same time. In Rebirth, most of it came across like something out of a video game. Sadly, a lot of Rebirth suffers from that compared to Princess Agents (I really do recommend it, even if some of its aesthetic is a bit out of date at this point and even if I am actually a bigger fan of Li Yun Rui than Lin Genxin - Shawn Dou was phenomenal though, he will always be the one and only Yan Xun to me).
ep 1 started over.as soon as I heard Yan Xuns mom I started crying.her performance in PA was astounding. I respect…
The way they did that scene in Rebirth was a pale copy of the scene in PA. Same with the wedding scenes between Yan Xun and Chun'er. They don't hit the same way. (I watched PA right before watching Rebirth).

My problem really wasn't with the content changes per se, it was the aesthetic if you will and the narrative choices. I could have lived with the Princess Agents storylines being dropped if everything else was done well. It wasn't. Like the mountain of corpses example I keep giving. Princess Agents, for the most part, did things in a brutal but very realistic way. But this??? Even high fantasy like Game of Thrones did not go there. And some of the decisions by Zhuge Yue, Li Ce, his mother and the others just did not make narrative sense. And I don't even want to talk about that ending - there has to be a payoff to the characters' journeys and it has to make sense. To me, it did not for anyone other than Yan Xun and he was not supposed to be the main character of this story. This ending just reminded me of 19th century novels where the main characters suffer horribly and die at the end anyway.
lol - I found ep 1 disconnected. So I went back and watched Princess Agents again. Almost done - to ep 56. So…
Honestly, when Rebirth opened with that mountain of corpses, it was clear it was going to be a dumpster fire. I have never seen anything like this (and I don't mean this as a compliment). Having said this, I do think the actors tried, but this disaster just couldn't be saved.

I assume so. I don't think the ML is giving up the crown prince title, and there is talk about her entering the palace and his complicated family, although it's not 100% clear.

I think it is confirmed. They show the scene where their mother is attacked with her two babies and murdered. General Shen saves Yin Zhou, takes him to the palace and he becomes the Crown Prince and the head of the Gu family saves Yin Ci and brings him up as Gu Zhuo Xi.
And he is at an age where it would be odd for him not to have been married during the time they are living in.
