Ironically, I dropped Ancient Love Poetry, but this one has gained a special place in my heart. I'm so happy that I'm ending the year off with such a good drama.
Hm...Hong Yi deserves A Yin more? We serious here? Hong Yi, the one who didn't cherish and appreciate his aunt who clearly has loved him well over hundreds of years? Hong Yi who hasn't realized that he likes Yan Shuang in over a thousand years? Nah, he's just lucky the drama doesn't focus on his story or else there'd be plenty of room for critique.
Let's not unfairly judge Gu Jin who I pity the most out of all the characters. This guy has LOST everyone he loves, literally.
So what if Gu Jin is a true god or the son of two true gods who saved the realms? He's still a child. And even then, those immortals are so ungrateful of his parents'/family's sacrifices, disrespecting and talking mad smack about them. Who is Gu Jin? Gu Jin has no profile to command the arrogant and wicked adult immortals who play the game so well. It's hard to resolve all of the issues when there's literally a mole in every clan and they're not just ordinary spies, they're the highest ranked, most trusted, and respected ones who polarize the entire realm. There's no way Gu Jin can handle them. He's only 200 years old and then A Yin is basically five years old, so we have two main leads who love each other SO MUCH and have DONE everything possible to stay together, but due to really really bad circumstances, conniving adults, cruel world, a biased hierarchy that discriminate the weak and poor like water beasts, their love pays the price for other people's crimes, hate, greed, and mistakes. My heart breaks for the two, equally. I totally understand Gu Jin in Episode 25. He was trying to save A Yin and HE DIDN'T KNOW about her punishment. It's funny, he wasn't there when Daze Mountain was destroyed and then again, he wasn't there when A Yin was internally destroyed by Hua Shu causing the lost of both.
Gu Jin, dumb? I find him to be so ordinary like any guy out there who falls for a girl who saved and stood up for him, the prettiest one at that too, who's so good at coaxing, lying, and manipulating, with such a good resume in the heavenly courts and family background, like who wouldn't fall for Hua Shu, realistically? One of the main things people have against him is Hua Shu. He wasn't that unreasonable and unlikable during the entire process. Sure, he had some cloudy moments, but people fall for the wrong people all the time. I don't count this against him. That's Gu Jin's charm. He's no perfect gentleman who immediately falls for the right person. He's not a cold and aloof guy who's too mighty to talk to anyone. He's extremely friendly, approachable, given his identity, bubbly, lovable, happy, despite his sad beginnings, and just wants to live in peace. He's a lazy fellow with lots of flaws, has no ambition because he wants to remain free, simple, and unknown in Daze mountain, forever, does a few things, not everything, for a girl he crushes on, yet never hesitates to give up his life for a shumei he so called can't love, he doesn't get things right away, but he's loyal, honest, genuine, and gentle towards those he loves, he'll always be there for everyone. He has grown up so well in the worst circumstances under his birth right.
Gu Jin has always placed A Yin first in his heart, whether he was aware or not, yes, even above Daze Mountain but when he lost Daze Mountain and realized that his master and brothers have known all along that they'd perish one day from his tribulation yet still lived each day so preciously with him, that mountain of guilt, grief, sorrow, stress, pressure, and accountability threw him off a bit. He wasn't himself during A Yin's last days and I don't blame him. Everything happened so quickly, there was no time to thoroughly process everything. At face value, too much happened: Hong Yi betrayed him, Lan Feng got killed, A Yin was dying, Daze Mountain got destroyed, he just ascended back into his god form, A Yin released Hong Yi placing him in an extremely difficult position, he was trying to find the moles, trying to prevent another bloody war, it has been a crazy ride and it all ended with losing A Yin in the CRUELEST way possible with him KILLING her. Killing the one he loved and cherished the most is a HUGE regret. I mean, how can true gods feel anything anymore when all they suffer are losses? Anyway, let's not bash or be too hard on Gu Jin/Yuan Qi. He truly did everything for A Yin and she, the same. It wasn't too little, too late, it was more of fate. Fate is when you've done ALL that you could yet still lose it. And perhaps it's their fate to lose one another for a thousand years to enjoy a long life together later on. I hope it's a happy ending. They've truly suffered enough already.
But I'm ready for all the angst. This is angst that MAKES sense and quite healthy. I love the consistency of this drama. They've built up Daze Mountain to be soooo lovable so the loss was a huge one. They built Gu Jin and A Yin's love story so well too that when he killed her, it was SOOOO SADDDD and intense. I honestly still cry watching Episode 25 and 26 and I've replayed it over 10 times. Everything was perfect in those two episodes.
Anyway, looks like I'll be here for the next few weeks. Lol
This was definitely one of my favorite dramas. Despite complaints of the second leads hogging the screen time, the main leads not having chemistry or so boring, the story line being all over the place, I have to DISAGREE.
All of the stories were good, all of the characters were fleshed out, the dialogue was deep, the acting was convincing, the overall message about life was well conveyed. Besides the dumb ending, the drama was a slow burn romance but well worth it.
This has actually been a pretty good drama so far. It's xianxia, so like always, things will only make sense in their world.
I really adore ZLS as Ah Yin and contrary to everyone everywhere, WAY has done a solid job as Gu Jin/Yuan Qi. I binged this drama for the past two days and now I'm all caught up. I can't wait to see when they meet again.
I honestly can say, only ZLS can pull off this character so cutely and bubbly without coming off as annoying or too much. Yuan Qi's eyes during that scene was sooo good.
ZLS's baby voice is no issue at all. It's a tone to reflect her young and innocent age but her character is actually quite witty, straightforward, and ordinary. Her cute voice isn't for attention or to make people feel sorry or find her cute, that's just her voice at her tender character's age.
Omg, Beauty of Resilience is probably worst. Haha.
If you're okay with choppy editing, an ending that made no sense, and a male lead who was basically someone else's husband when he had amnesia, a girl who looked like the female lead but wasn't her, then yeah, the drama won't be too bad, but I just couldn't take the overall nonsense, not that any of Ju Jing Yi's dramas were ever that great.
Happy 6 months! So nice to meet here again. TSL is still so hard to beat.
Hellllooo, again! Agreed. This drama is a true gem, one that will shine brightly for many years to come. The expected major blockbusters this summer have been a bit disappointing, so I've been slowly rewatching this drama all over again.
AHHH, HAPPY SIX MONTHS BESTIE! Sorry for the late word of celebration I didn’t realize that we’re in already…
I'm doing well. Although we're six months wiser now, I love it how the drama stays that way, their beauty doesn't age nor fade away. I just wish they came out with official Blu-ray sets, so I can relive the moments in a pretty package like my other Korean dramas. You take care as well and see you at our 1 year!
Can someone please spoil me this drama and here is why I watch most of this drama but with clips on YT. And saw………
Qing Kui dies, but the beauty of this drama heavily lies in the journey and not ending, so if you're deciding to watch a drama based on the ending, you may miss out on one of the best dramas ever. Qing Kui is in the drama until the very end. Sure, she dies but she still has scenes afterwards.
This drama is similar to Ashes of Love but this one is definitely better and more relaxed, the casting choice…
Funnily, I rewatched AOL on Netflix just a month ago. I haven't rewatched it in 5 years now? It hits different. I still love it but too much focus on the baddies. But I wished this drama would've stretched the emotional parts of the story just a tad more like AOL.
Happy 6 Months to this lovely and unforgettable drama! It's still hard to find something as wholesome, funny, and good as this. I've been watching all sorts and still, this one is one of my favorites! I hope everyone is still doing well in their own starry lives! Take care everyone!❤️❤️
I don't mind if they are dating someone else. It just prove that they are great actors. 😆. Back then I thought…
Oh yeah, Yang Kang was before GMP. He looked so young, still had the baby fat cheeks. Hehe. Although Meng Zi Yi, the actress CXX was paired up as Yang Kang was pretty and a 1995er, I thought she looked too mature or old for him and she's only a year older in reality. Or it was him who looked like a baby boy then. Or the wardrobe just made him look meh. Hahaha, so I thought they were a mix match. I like Yuan Hong and Liu Shi Shi's version more in the 2007 adaptation. But yes, CXX is one versatile actor, for sure, probably one of the best of his generation right now.
I wished they didn't cut out those scenes where YQ and YT get back to the beast realm.
When YQ and YT exited out of the heavenly realm at the end of Episode 30, the next scene we see is of them in their room with YT wiping YQ's blood and he's trying to heal but in reality, they filmed a few more scenes but were cut. They actually filmed YT half carrying YQ through the beast realm to their room. I thought those scenes were sweet. Like we barely get any sweet scenes where the leads do nothing but hug as it is.

I don't mind who they date either as long as they produce really good works for us. They're all so young, they should have all the fun in the world. I like PXR too.
