The theme is important
This film has many layers but underneath it all there's one main central theme that people keep overlooking because all they talk about is the "twists" and change of events. The main theme is that this is a TRAGEDY.
Once you see the last scene where you see laughs, smiles, an innocence that abounds in the lake countryside, this was a huge tragedy and once you see know how it ends you can't help but feel bad for them. I know everyone wants to talk about the turn in direction, or how they predicted or did not predict the outcome, above it all is how it ends.
