Interesting.I haven't really noticed jdrama having this particular issue but perhaps it's because I haven't watched…
I think this type of FL character majority came from shoujo manga adaptation. LA from Josei manga usually have stronger FL. Or at least FL in josei manga still weak, but choose to became stronger like Nagi in "Nagi no Oitoma"
Seriously Seigo creeps me out with his infatuation over Hayame. I dislike him so much. Even worse is that he doesn't…
I kind of understand why Seigo didn't show an ounce of affection toward Issei. I mean Issei has a difficult personality after her mom left, he literally push everyone away and Seigo have his own struggles as a heir. Seigo might be tired by all Issei antics. And also He might be jealous because Issei can do whatever he want while he have to appear poise and perfect because he felt that he was the face of Ryokan.
I understand, but that doesn't mean i like his character XD
I wish they will fix their relationship at the end of this series. They seems really close before their mother gone.
As for his infatuation toward Hayame, maybe it also fueled by his jealousy (or inferiority) toward Issei. He didn't want to loose to his bratty younger brother :p
Is it just me or Issei was rather hesitant to help Kinkuno get up? At first he appeared to be sorry and apologetic…
Come to think of it, at ep 4 or 5 when sadist customer went to Ryokan. She said she only want male servant to serve her. But she also favor Kikuno (other servant called her as lethal weapon). I know she also enjoyed Issei's mother company and Hayame, but I wonder, what if she accept Kikuno because she knew (or felt) that Kikuno was a boy XD. Please forgive my imagination.
:) Shout out to Gordon Maeda and Fumi Nikaido's chemistry and acting skill. I've never have a doubt for Fumi's acting skill, but surprisingly I really enjoyed Gordon's performance as Issei. His facial expressions (and his voice) are really on point in this series. I've seen him in a couple of movie and series before, but so far it's just 'okay' performance. After this, I'm looking forward to watch his other projects :)
Kikuno: What do you think about older woman? Issei: Older woman is super amazing [Kikuno proceed to try to kiss Issei] Issei: But the older woman that I want to kiss is not you
YOOOOOOOOOOOO!
When almost every man said Kikuno is cute, Issei straight up said she's like a snake🤣
But I really like how they write Kikuno/Akira's character. Looking forward to know what her background stories
Well Ive to rewatch back the episode you mention about. I've no clue if she's a boy, cause the manga has no closure…
To be honest, Hayame seems like already fall for Issei at ep 7. She said that she only think Issei as her little brother, but thx to Fumi Nikaido's acting skill we can see (from her expression) that she wasn't sure did she really thought Issei as her cute little brother XD

If Kikuno was a girl who saved by Hayame, I think it also make sense if she wants Hayame end up with Seigo, because she believes that Seigo was better for her ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I wonder, did Kikuno also involved in Hayame's father death? I knew Hayame already said that her father died because his alcoholic behaviour. But what if this is just the beginning so she finally can find where is Hayame. Hayame moved out after she graduated from High School, Seigo didn't know her name (so kikuno might be didn't know her name either), but Seigo knew where she lived. When her father died, she had to manage her father funeral, so she had to came home and Kikuno finally knew where she was

I think it's better for you to activated spoiler tag :D
And also this speculation just purely came from my imagination (but Akira indeed is more popular as male name). ^^a At ep 7 She seems angry and sad when Seigo called her Akira again and she mentioned that her former self has already gone.
Kikuno seems like have a long relationship with Seigo. She might be know him (and became his friend) since younger day, but end up having more complex relationship at present day.
In the manga, how is their background story? (I didn't read the manga, yet)
Episode 7, Maybe Seigo himself who put that complaint mail toward Hayame. Him or Kikuno.
As for Kikuno, I got suspicious when in ep 4 or 5 Seigo call her as Akira and she got mad. I mean Akira can be used as male or female name, but Akira more popular for boys name. So, at that point I thought maybe Kikuno was originally a boy🤣.
But at the flash back in this ep, she seems like an ordinary school girl. ---- Edit after watching episode 8, so it was Akane-chan who sabotage Hayame's work life, but my guess she was helping Kikuno. It was Kikuno all along (singing in "agatha all along") XD ---- Edit after watching ep 9, Okay, so Kikuno was originally cis-woman. The theory finally flew out of window ^^a
I don't think it's predictable. It's good writing and build-up. The game had to end sooner rather than later because…
I don't mean predictable as a bad thing in this case :). But she getting out from the house is quite inevitable and obvious for me, that why I said it predictable. And, as you point out, I also really glad that they doing it much early (in the middle of season). I think Issei actually predicted that Hayame will choose to move out, but he didn't think it'd damage him that deep. Either way, I like how Gordon carried out Issei's character at this ep :)
Episode 5, The plot is predictable. I mean, It kind of obvious that at some point Issei will kick Hayame-chan away from the house as part of the game. But seeing how it delivered, It quite punch in my heart We can see Hayame confused about her feeling toward Issei, and we can see how Issei actually really jealous by looking his reaction and his harsh comment. Damn, I really like the dynamic between Fumi and Gordon.
At episode 4 when Hayame choked Issei while Koya-san tried to comfort the costumer was hilarious. At the end he still grumpy but also need an oxycan.🤣
Or when Issei tried to escape because he didn't want his brother (Seigo) to see him at the inn and wearing Kimono.🙈
Surprisingly, I begin to like Gordon Maeda's acting, sometimes I felt his eyes were lacking of emotions, but somehow it suit Issei's character

They've just released it yesterday :)

I like the way Issei treated Kikuno

My speculation appeared because 'Akira' more popular for male name. Although, it is actually unisex name.
If Kikuno was really a boy, i think the shock impact will be similar to Kuina's gender revelation at "Alice in Borderland" 🙈
But Kikunojo indeed looks so pretty (without her mask) XD
I wonder, did Kikuno also involved in Hayame's father death? I knew Hayame already said that her father died because his alcoholic behaviour. Hahaha....
Sorry, for my wild imagination

Another 3 ep of Rohan and I can't wait for it.
