You may start with his short movies Wuliang and Painted Skin, they are masterpieces! If you like his cinematographic style, it would be easier to dive into dramas, cause they are very slow-paced and feel draggy at the beginning. I like the 2nd half of FoF much better than the 1st half, and I was watching MJTY on 1.5 speed most of the time ))) But still, I love these dramas and will rewatch them soon again.
It would be interesting to know if you like them once you try ))

GJM (the director) has a good sense of humor, for my taste at least )) Did you see his previous dramas FoF or MJTY? You'd see there hilarious scenes that dilutes the drama pretty well, although there are always much more drama than comedy, I'd say 5:1 ratio
