And even in America there is not a lot of dramas where the main leads are homosexual. Cause they actually have to be careful how they portray them on screen unlike in Asia, we know it’s for the female audience to fangirl over hot guys where as in America it’s going to be seen as a representation of LGBTQ community

Funnily when the whole CFY scandal occurred water armies and anties flooded chat saying they want BG line instead. so obvious they try to create drama/fanwar every chance they get and it’s annoying. That’s why I try to deter people from doing same thing here. But it’s not as bad here as in weibo and YOUTBE talking bout how they hate SM as a girl and even hate the actress and that they being homophobic etc im like oh be quiet you like BL not cause of gay awareness or anything, you just like to simp for the hot guys Lol

Yeah that is going to be painful and frustrating to watch as it is, even if SM was kept as a male. But lolz yes that would be a hell of a task to showcase the “love triangle” or square xD Now that i think bout it, making SM a girl adds even more fuel to the fire because SM can be out in open with her love whilst the other two love has to be portrayed subtle route. So it not only helps drive the subplot and pass censorship, but it also makes it all the more heart wrenching and unfair. I just hope the drama does a good job delivering that the audience hate SM for what she does and not because they believe it’s turning into BG. 😅

Think people just concern how it’s going to play out. I mean everything will be explained as the plot will unfold so it will be evident that the person MR fell for isn’t who he thought it was.
The only thing that makes me curious is how they will transition effectively without having that “am I gay or am I straight” confusion that we see in crossdressing trope often

But i feel like the storyline is too elegant for that and might just go with the flow and there will be a tacit understanding that the love is there… idk we’ll see how it plays out when it airs. Lol

Btw, i’ve said this before but….

BL is marketed towards female audience written by mostly female writers. (In most cases it pretty much fetishized homosexuality just like Yuri is to men) Of course that’s changing now. But most often these BL novels/comics are written in a heteronormative narrative (ex. omegaverse) meaning that most of the common tropes pretty much portrays common heterosexual elements in BG writing.
So you’re basically reading a mostly BG plot line just the gender is switched.

Idk how it is for Immortality but what i like bout bl adaptation is how they need to maneuver the censorship so the bl is subtle, you gotta read between the lines and expressions to know it’s there. Makes me think of Ancient times when there were gay men but they had to hide it or face consequences. Makes me feel like the love they have for each other is stronger or the sexual tension is stronger cause they can’t be out in the open type of way. Lol Again this is just my ideal and in no way do I know what it’s really like for gay man.

Because that’s part of the storyline, you know to add drama to the romance. of course anyone would want to break something if they see someone trying to break OTP regardless of gender! But the point is the OTP is still the mls and they will have the most scenes. How do you know the complicated feelings of Moran won’t be portrayed? If that’s so then it is not the casting of a female but a failure on the actor and directing…

In order to pass censorship they need to make adjustments that’ll please both NRTA and audience as well. There’s a caveat to adapted bl because we should all be aware that its always going to be censored. The romance is going to be bromance at best or read between the lines.
Now, i heard of some Taiwanese bl dramas that arent censored and even have kissing scenes but who are the actors? Right, dont know, you think we will get famous celebrities in mainland to be even on this if there was such scenes? It’s not about homophobia it’s just a lot of risk involved.
Tang Wei got blacklisted for her role in Lust, caution. Mainland china can be brutal to even sex scene of BG, you think they ready to see bl making out? The youngsters maybe but there’s a lot of old conservatives. And if producers want to make more money, this gotta appeal to most if not all the mass.

In all the comments I read all over social media, I never saw comments about how they are upset that ShiMei is a girl because they actually like the character from the novel. (In fact most hate SM so who gives a f if SM is a girl/boy anyways lol) And those who do like the char because of complexity sad story etc. have even said they thought shimei was a girl at first because of the name and don’t really mind the gender change cause it doesnt change the storyline much. The OTP is still going to be the mls no matter what, and changing it, is changing the story. And most are only upset because they worry that Shimei being a girl is going to change this into BG. And for that all i gotta say is calm down!

Remember the screen writer said himself what should be there is there what shouldn’t isn’t. People be freaking out like the red wedding scene just cause SM was there like calm tf down this aint no threesome wedding it’s just part of the story line for some ghost marriage or some shht. 🤦‍♀️

Tbh she doesn’t have many dramas that are out I particularly am wowed about but i just like her acting especially villain char. But her upcoming dramas i’m waiting to see unfortunately she not popular like others so her drama release takes longer to come out.
She also has a pleasant voice that doesn’t need dubbing.
She not extremely pretty imo like the typical chinese standard of beauty thats why i was skeptic how her pairing with younger idol like actors would be but it turned out well~ i think she has the capability as an actor to be a lead but she is not popular and no powerful backing to get lead role so its better to not turn down support roles in a big production imo

As for HYX, only reason why i’m happy with the change of gender in her part is cause I want to see female costumes as well 😂 which is probably the dynamic in my case lol i just love ancient costumes and a big production such as HYX with its famous designer, it be sad to not see female clothing style as well lol

I read melon say her first choice was to go in CFY company but ultimately choose Leo company because better contract. A lot of LYX fans says same thing, but CY fans are pretty supportive and believe it’s better than being in old company. At least she has more freedom and company won’t dictate what role she chooses and won’t turn down roles like the old company so that she plays their homemade films instead lol. Also she is “first sister” in actor department, so there is no competition for her unlike if she joins other company. Idk if LYX helped her get this role because like I mentioned she worked with this director before. This director seem to bring actors he worked with before into his works as support cast. Probably because it’s easier to cast those he already worked with before and have good relationship.
But of course I won’t deny that if the company buy IP most likely Leo and Sebrina will work together.
Yeah i think Sebrina better take on support roles for now, as her popularity slowed down by old company amongst actresses her age range. Just her leaving old company she gained million+ followers lol. That’s saying how bad some of her fans hated old company and we would rather she in a breakfast shop company that treats her well.
