I don't think the drama was keeping it a secret, they made it obvious in episode 4 that he was going to do something. His mother on the other hand is oblivious, she clearly has no clue and nor will her son let her on.

On the contrary, I wanted Akhee to have a dangerous personality but he ended up coming out cuter. That was a bit of a let down. Park Jihoon looks hella good in serious roles.

After watching todays episode, I believe Akhee should be able to have Gyera. Sajo Hyun was willing to let her die. Akhee is the one to save her always, like I get Sajos reasoning too, but Akhee deserves his ending with Gyera.
