I wouldn't recommend making such comparisons tbh. novels and short stories are completely different than the type of art presented in motion pictures. a great example is the Shining (movie) 1980. Despite the film being a big hit, to this day. Stephen King (the writer of the novel) didn't like it! he mentioned in many interviews how he didn't see eye to eye with Stanley Kubrick (the director of the movie) on so many things. Still, the Shining is one the greatest horror movies of all times but when you read the novel you realise how much of the ML's background wasn't revealed in the movie.
