It's harder to make good modern day dramas. I'm watching The Best Thing and it's very much a "healing/feel good" drama if you want to try it.

I did not watch the last drama you mentioned as many people said the BE didn't make sense. But Xianxia or cultivation stories usually have a high death count. The usual reason is going against the Heavenly Way requires a big sacrifice. This is why fans of the genre joke that it's better to have a demon or villain as the MC since they are so badass and don't care about morals😂

But yes, I think they ended up not pleasing anyone. There are too many people involved in a drama production so often they don't handle it well.

It's a shame what happened with RMP. It could have been a big hit.

I think because they didn't intend to go there so they made this ending as a compromise for fans of the series. A friend who watches the donghua/anime told me they still haven't resolved the issue of the reincarnation so it's dragging on.

I hope Zhang Ruo Nan acts in more costume dramas. She's lovely here.

I don't think it's the actors' faults for the complaints here. It's the director and scriptwriter actually. I'm guessing they didn't have the budget or time to hire a more well-known director.
