I don't think it’s fair to say I have a prejudice against her when I actually liked her acting in Go Ahead. Sometimes an actor can be very good in one role and simply not click with you in another, and that’s how I feel here. You may genuinely see things differently, and that’s completely fine. But disagreeing with my interpretation doesn’t necessarily mean I’m 'grasping for something' to criticize. I just happen to be noticing things that are taking me out of the story.

I can see where you’re coming from, I think my issue is less with what the character is supposed to be feeling and more with how the actress conveys it. For me, the emotions often feel performed rather than naturally felt, which makes it difficult for me to connect with her.

I’m a little frustrated with the FL's acting. Her acting often feels out of character. I see bits and pieces of Tan Song Yun from The Sword and the Brocade, she’s not really getting into the character, and doesn’t seem to have much chemistry with anyone, for example at the beginning of ep 8, her interaction with the fellow maid (Xiao Lian ?) feels awkward and doesn't come across as genuine. This could've been as good as The Story of Ming Lan had they chosen a better actress for the FL.

I doubt it. Her character is smart and resourceful. She also noticed the crack in the token from Feng Zhiyao, which should clue her in her personal maid/SZD. I think there's a high probability that she has taken precautions going into that meeting.

I noticed several clues. given to us as viewers: first, Yeli's shoe is badly damaged, which suggests that she was actually the one who made that descent and absorbed the impact herself. Second, Mr Zhu's a swordsman, never parts with his sword, yet fighting the snake using tree branch. Third, bitten by the snake, we were shown that one of the snakes bit him, but before he hit the ground, the camera cut to Yeli falling in the exact same position. The visual parallel makes it clear to me that the event happening to Mr. Zhu (as told by Yeli to Li Feibai) was actually happening to Yeli. Mr Zhu wasn't her rescuer, he was a heroic version of herself that her imagination created to help her process a traumatic experience.

This is exceptionally well made. It’s been a while since I’ve watched a drama with such an engaging story, good pacing, memorable characters, and a strong overall atmosphere. Zhang Zi Feng is a bit petite, but her resilience perfectly captures the character, and her smile is especially moving. The entire cast delivers strong performances. The drama doesn’t try to lecture you with big ideas. Instead, it focuses on the small, everyday struggles and moments of warmth that feel very real. Who hasn’t had days where you think, "I really can’t get through today". Sometimes all you need is a friend saying, "Let’s talk about it tomorrow", or someone who’s willing to listen to you complain for five minutes and somehow, that’s enough. Winter is cold, but when there’s someone walking beside you, it doesn’t feel quite so unbearable.

I totally agree with you re click pic. Also, at this point, I don’t see any romantic feelings between them. They are similar souls who’ve found understanding in each other.

I think it’s because they were friends when they were younger. There’s an episode where he mentions they sang together as kids. I feel like he might still like her, but after the incident where his father died because of her, his feelings toward her are really complicated. That’s probably why he comes off as loving and hating her at the same time.

Well, technically, no, she did not fool him because he already knew the truth, he simply chose to play along. But, emotionally, she did fool him in a way. His line: 'but you can only fool me once' could imply that he let himself be fooled the first time, he allowed himself to be drawn in.

It could go either way, the screenwriter clearly chose to leave it ambiguous. Based on what was shown in the drama, it might have been Tie Tou, since it appears that a night passed after he braided Sa Tiao’s hair in his hut, and later, his mother mentioned that the baby resembled him. But then again, Tie Tou strongly denied it, which raises doubts. There's also the mysterious gifts left outside their home, those could have come from someone else entirely, possibly the real father. It feels unlikely that neighbors would just leave gifts anonymously like that.

Well, there were some happier moments, for example: Xiu2 gave birth to a second son and a daughter, Xiu2 succeeded in managing the water system for the crops by collaborating with her neighbors. Yet, the screenwriter chose to gloss over these moments, merely mentioning instead of showing them. Meanwhile, the tragedy is given center stage, fully dramatized. That said, I still find this drama worth watching. It's a rare gem among recent Chinese dramas, well produced and backed by strong performances from the entire cast.

Totally agree with you! Xiu2’s behavior is so frustrating. She’s trying so hard to be this 'savior' for everyone, but in the end, she’s neglecting her own well-being and the life growing inside her. The whole thing about her starving herself while running around trying to solve everyone else’s problems? It's just absurd. This drama started to lose me the moment Lulu showed up in their ox village. She inserted herself into their lives, forcing her way into their home. After that, it’s just one ridiculous thing after another.

I can see where you're coming from. This drama relies heavily on CGI to bring its cultivator world to life, which can sometimes make the visuals feel less integrated. It demands larger-than-life CGI elements like mythical creatures, fantasy battles, and otherworldly landscapes, so it becomes more noticeable when those effects don't quite match the physical world.

I’ve been skipping and fast-forwarding through a lot of episodes, watching this for LYN. It starts off pretty funny, but the FL’s treatment of the ML is just too harsh, even in the latest episode, despite the situation they're in, I don’t feel any emotional attachment from her towards the ML at all. I’m putting this drama on pause.

Well, I feel quite the opposite, I actually found FL to be adorable. TPOB is very enjoyable for me, it keeps me hooked from the start to finish. In fact, I’m re-watching this drama while waiting for the next episode of 'Created in China' to drop. I did check out the 1st episode of Feud, but it’s not my cup of tea. Still, glad you found something you’re enjoying!

I've looked into this before, and I believe it's set during the Warring States period in ancient China, a time period of intense and frequent warfare.
