I don't remember exactly but I think it was later made to look like an ambush on the carriage , and some nearby villagers were killed to account for the attackers' bodies or maybe they saw something. I read one big long fan translation, but should not be first book, as it was revealed in the end.

Actually I opened AO3 yesterday, and someone has written a RamilPaytai fanfic about that exact suit.
