It's not as clear in this adaptation, but the ML is the uncle of the 2ML.
Also, normally when I have watched this, the mother of the 2ml is the sister of the ML.

No, I don't recall him addressing any as parents, just grandfather. I think the problem is that those scenes may have been edited out to shorten the uploaded video. Unfortunately, that happens a lot. I only know because this isn't the first, or second, lol, version I have watched of this story line. although, I think this is one of my favorites because of the MC. I've watched sooo many verticals now that I just fill in the gaps when needed, lol. Hope that helps! :)
