Do i need to watch the prequel or have any ackground of the story before watching this?
you can watch the first mystic nine movies, there's also series if you wanted more details. Watching the other parts would make you understand the things going on with the series since all of them are connected and you might question other details and information because i think they will not provide all the details that happened before or some background info(some seasons are like this so i'll recommend watching it in chronological order but i'm sure they'll show some flashbacks naman
