It's nice that in the novel Xihe knew he was alive somewhere, but while I was watching her grieve in the series, it really emphasized her feelings for him. Especially since she always looks calm and cold most of the time.
I'm the type of person who only watches dramas with happy endings. I don't always know exactly how they end, but I at least want to know that the ending is a happy one. Real life is already sad enough, so I watch C-dramas and K-dramas for some happiness.
That said, for this drama, I actually think it would've been better if the ML had stayed dead. It would've reinforced the idea that the story wasn't really about romance—it was about the FL conquering the world, ruling on her own, and proving she didn't need a man to succeed.
I was still hoping they'd bring him back somehow, but by using the same magic that brought her back. We never really got an explanation of how she became Xihe, so I thought the finale might use that magical plot point to give us a happy ending while still making it feel earned. Oh well, atleast it gave us more than the other dramas do.
Absolutely love how the FL is both a badass butcher and a skilled martial artist while still being incredibly feminine. Most FLs with this kind of strength tend to have that heroine aura and often come across as even cooler than the ML. But she's different. She doesn't want people to know she's a butcher because she sees it as something that's not considered ladylike. And you can see the incredible growth in her acting. She can be fierce and intimidating in one scene, then effortlessly switch to being gentle, graceful, and feminine in the next.
I was happy to see HMH acting out another drama.. however i feel like this drama was not his best? Maybe it is…
OMG I completely agree. I can feel the intensity when the focus is on HMH, but when it focuses on the FL, it lacks chemistry. Not hating on her, but just my take. Unlike other FLs where you can really feel that aura, hers is lacking. Probably because most of her roles are just supporting roles and she's just 18 years old (probably the biggest factor, and most likely an indication that we really won't see real romance here)
This is hands down the best historical drama of 2025 so far. The female lead was incredibly elegant, perfectly capturing the grace and strength of the era. It added so much authenticity to the setting. I personally prefer this refined portrayal over the overly ‘cutesy’ approach often seen in period pieces. The enemies-to-lovers arc was beautifully developed, not just fueled by shallow misunderstandings, but by deep, meaningful conflict. Watching their relationship grow from genuine resentment to love was truly compelling.
