I have taken some time to write a bit more on the drama. There was never going to be a great end. We all know how it would turn out logically. But why hits is how real Kai’s acting is till the very end. How he repents. And how he admits the stress was getting him down and how he is at peace. Till the very end he is the bigger man. Much bigger than his narcissistic father whose sense of righteousness is so limited. The father never repents. He just expects. He does not put up a great example as a father. He is sanctimonious. He offers no solutions. He is disrespectful to his wife. Pines for his long lost and dead first love with grown kids in the house with no consideration on how it impacts his wife and child. He argues about the girl’s medical expenses and makes rash decisions. Unnecessarily causing stress to the 2 kids. In every way he perpetuated the situation to its conclusion. Even when he calls his son who is trying to make a living to support his girlfriend’s illness, he screams. There is no empathy in the man yet he expects high morals and filial respect from his son. And to the credit of the boy he respects his father till the last minute while making wrong and difficult decisions to manage a bad situation burning the candle at both ends. There are so many arguments on the son’s actions but it’s undeniable that they stem from an incompetent and inept parent. The way the mother disses on the sick girl. No matter how much they try to fix it later - the parents actions and behaviour set the course of things. Watching your own child come to that end - it’s unbelievable! As a parent my life would end if there was so much as a scratch on my boy, but these two live on in some delusional version of self defined righteousness. And it’s all wrong. It’s great to want practice and expect morality. But morality is not one dimensional. It’s not specific to some actions and blurred for others. These two (characters) have decided what specifically they will consider moral or not. Kai’s character despite its massive dark tones and criminal mastermind still steals the show as victim of circumstance and not an inherently bad person. It’s a pity the viewers are immature to understand an appreciate the genius of the story. I’m watching it again. Because it’s that good.

sadly the low ratings is because they are commenting on the actor’s looks, not on his performance.
He looks gorgeous. What’s wrong with his looks? Are viewers retarded? Do actors need to look like poor copies of Ken dolls to be considered as good looking? What a rubbish mindset. The guy looks great. Handsome in the real world kind of way. His character is doing atrocious things. But he is so vulnerable and pitiful that you still cheer him on. That kind of emoting is sheer genius. It sets the stage for how criminals get a fan following in the real world. His child like yearn for acceptance by his parents. His unwavering boundless love for his girlfriend. His constant efforts to set things right. All matched with his criminal genius. Forward thinking. Planning 10 steps ahead. Executing with precision and leaving no stone unturned and using any and every this to stay ahead of the law is such bouquet of contradictions that make him likeable despite the horrendous acts he is committing. What other looks is the audience looking for? Face paint and eye make up?

They are rooting for the lead because despite what is clearly heinous actions the actor has shown his brilliance in acting by making a flawed character likeable. He has given the character the layers and complexity and vulnerability that makes for a powerful role and manages to impress the audience enough to make them question the basics of morality itself. It’s sad that you’ve given the drama a lower rating because your viewpoint on supporting the character is different. It’s a brilliant piece of work. And that the male lead actor has managed to sway audience in their own moral judgment is a very powerful thing. It’s rare to see such brilliance. I certainly hope xu kai will continue providing such near perfect performances.
