No. They spent a lot of time together at the tower, but bcs of the editing it felt rushed and instant bcs the story must go to the next plot which is the real start of the drama. The first 5 eps is just a prologue of their past.

They aren't destined to be happy, they live to fulfill their parents expectations and to maintain peace or political issue. The only freedom she got was the 3 years when she learned martial arts. Not every princess in all dramas can be rebellious. Even in The Long Ballad we got the rebel princess and the obedient princess who is scared of everything.

Finally some wise and positive viewers can be seen in this thread. I guess the negative viewers have left the chat after watching 3 eps and voted 1 point 😅 ouch at the low rating, but it's better they left early.

Bai Ying is a royal blood who is forced to be the crown princess. So she has no right to speak her minds, nor follows her dream, nor even go outside the tower. They want her to be this obedient, pure and meek puppet. So she's unhappy and has to live a boring life learning etiquette and stay away from gossips. Which is why she tried to stay away from Su Mo bcs he is a male.

Personally I really like her in TLLTM bcs she played 3 different characters there. Each with different personalities and speaking manners. I see in this drama she acts as 2 different characters? She is great at diversing her characters but not overdoing it. But I think AoL lovers expected Yuqi to be Liu Ying instead of Bai Ying here 🙄

Watch it yourself so you can judge. People have different taste and expectations. Personally I have issue with the production and the editing, but I have no problems with the actors or the acting or the story.

Yuqi is great at building chemistry, but somehow it didn't work with Alan Yu. For acting, Yuqi was a badass in TLLTM, but for chemistry I love ATWIL. In here I think it's bcs of their characters which they were meant to be a subtle love. Like "they are interested with e/o but they aren't not allowed to continue" so they could only have subtle skinship and conversations. it's just a warm up though. Actors can't build chemistry in a day of shooting.

Finally a wise viewer! Yes, Bai Ying is a princess trapped in a gold birdcage. She's not happy, has no freedom, she's not even allowed to speak her thoughts or wishes. She has to stay pure until her marriage, living a boring life at the tower. Basically she's just a puppet groomed to be the future queen.

For a sec I had a heart attack bcs you replied to my comment and upset with me as if I mocked Yuqi 😭 when I read it properly I think you replied to the wrong person 😅 well as a fan, I watched all her dramas. Although I hate her no chemistry with Alan Yu, she's incredible in her roles there bcs she played 3 different characters. I watched Mystery of Antiques 3 too although I don't understand chinese 😅 but she's so good there as well. It hurts a lot people mocked Yuqi as if they watched her other dramas other than AoL 🙄

I think people chose to follow the subs from viki and croton instead of subbing it themselves which would come faster rather than waiting the official subs.

Well here I am try to understand why people always mention Ashes of Love for Yuqi as if she only acts in one drama? 🤷‍♀️ Bai Ying is a different kind of character Yuqi used to act. I'm a fan of Yuqi and I watched all her dramas. Her acting is always good and she always nailed her characters. She also has great chemistry with her co-stars, male and female, except with Alan Yu. You guys should try to watch her other dramas, then come back here to understand BAI YING and not Yuqi.

Even NPE has some people complaining about Yang Mi, William or Xu Kaicheng or how Yang Mi and William don't have chemistry or how TMOPB is way better, but they didn't try to understand the characters and background. In order to enjoy a drama you need to dig into the characters, not comparing bcs those are different dramas with different stories and different characters to portray. Like, what's the point of comparing apple with orange? 🤷‍♀️
