Title Bittersweet Love
The thing is...it was historically accurate as only Europe at that time had gay marriages....even the Methodist…
They still hold ceremonies even for civil unions and protestant churches in northern europe are more open than in the east (asia) and also in central and western europe....Well this was from a novel so let's take this as the author's take on the matter. But truth be told that since 80s and 90s ceremonies were held even for civil unions and that some minor protestant churches officiate these kind of marriages...I want to empathize PROTESTANT...so they are not catholics since Italy is the only country in Europe that doesn't recognize same sex unions, even Greece recignizes unions now but back then at least in North Europe they are celebrated....Maybe look for stories of old gays in Asia marrying in Europe....I come accross it somewhere in YT it was in chinese network agency affiliate YT channel....if not just check it, I remember a couple marrying in Europe but forgot where, they are interracial couple meaning one of them are from Europe and the other was Asian....
