Overall, I really enjoyed this TV show. I love the small town/beach scenery. ♡
I really liked this show, the theme song was loud and annoying because of their continuous playing of that song in 5 different versions every 10-15 minutes, but I digress, I love the character's (for the most part), I love the aesthetic of this TV Show, the storyline and the plot. The show is very funny and heartwarming.I am for the most part speaking in general when I say this, the 90s (or any decade) often allowed/allows weird stuff to pass too much for my liking.
1. 17 year old makoto being jokingly told by a grown man that if she drinks more milk her breasts will grow???
2. That doesn't work that way.
3. That's weird, that's suspicious. I blame the writers.
Overall, this show gets a 8.5. Encore! ♡

The epitome of art! ♡
I just wanna clarify that I enjoy everything, from the characters(most of them atleast) to the writing.1. Zhen Huan, Meizhuang, Lingrong, heck all of those girls deserved better than being married to a grouchy, warty and old as dirt man.
2. Emperor, marrying teenagers is nasty.
3. Lady Hua, girl...bullying teen girls is INSANE work!
4. Seventh prince is so handsome! ♡
And lastly 5. I recommend this drama if you like watching shows set in the qing dynasty and/or period pieces in general. I don't know when, will watch again. Encore! ♡

This drama is all over the place.
As for the characters: Okay, starting with Yuan Qingsuo, this lady showed little-to-no wit when it came to the Male MCs.Yuwen Yong, pfft. Don't get me started. Although the actor is very nice to look at and the charcter on the (education wise) intelligent side, I'mma need these drama producers to stop romanticizing the rough arm pulling mess. (source: 2-28ish maybe). Just cut it all out. There is nothing remotely cute about that.
Also, what happened to what I assumed to be the main plot, getting the soul orb? The orb seems to be of little importance after the first half-quarter of the TV-show. Just throw the whole show away. The only reason I am still watching is because I am curious of the ending. The 'romance' can kick rocks.
As for the story, the plot itself had potential overall, the execution and story organization is all over the place.

This isn't what I expected.
I expected a bit more from this drama. I felt as of this series talked more about empress Wu than they did about Taiping. This is supposed to be about Taiping. Taiping may as well have been a side character, and this may as well have been another Wu drama. It had an overall-okay-ish storyline.I expected more thrill from this title, however it seems that the drama had a whole lot of fillers and unnecessary dialogue that I don't care too much about. The show got really slow in the middle. Which lead to me losing all interest. I dropped it.
