Yes, Omegas are protected in this world because they're weak and easily threatened by Alphas. Gao Tu’s mom told him to hide his identity because of his abusive father. He would sell his son if he knew Gao was an Omega. It's quite terrible, but Gao also does it to be close to Shen Wenlang. It encourages him to hide it even further because Shen doesn't like Omegas due to his traumas from his parents. It's all very complicated for Gao and very sad.
