As somebody who has watched a few of the Itazaura na Kiss adaptations, I have to say this one was probably one of my favourites. So far I've watched the Taiwanese series (the first one completely and a bit of the second one), the Korean series and some of the Japanese ones (Love in Tokyo and the recent movies), and yet this movie stands out to me.

The problem with redoing this story to death is that it can get very repetitive, knowing what is going to come next (i.e. when will they fight, when are they going to kiss and so on). So I really enjoyed the slight change of plot in the movie as it made the story seem fresh while still maintaining the original characters and feel of the story. Excusing the editing of the story to fit it into 2 hours, most of the changes in plot are generally quite minor, like Zhi Shu working in a vet instead of a cafe, with the ending probably being the biggest change.

The acting was pretty good, and I really liked the chemistry between the two leads. I particularly liked that Xiang Qin and Jelly Lin's portrayal of Xiang Qin wasn't too cringey as some of the adaptations made me feel so much secondhand embarrassment. Similarly, I liked that Darren Wang's portrayal of Zhi Shu wasn't too harsh and "tsundere" as although he would show annoyance at Xiang Qin, you would still notice him smiling and enjoying himself. The only thing that really bothered me was the acting of Zhi Shu's mum as it seemed really fake to me.

The cinematography, editing and music were nice, fitting the mood of a light rom-com.

So if you're up for an easy going rom-com with a light plot to watch over the weekend, give the movie a try.
