I watched on Viki and the subtitles did say it was an apartment he owns but it was empty (so not the one he was living in). I'm very confused but I get that now they kinda live together.

I understood this part but Shen offered him to rent an empty apartment near his office, (so not the one he is currently living in). So I didn't understand why he would sleep there without any scene to explain. That's why I was confused.
