The Past Always Catch Up With Us...

Is it a simple revenge story? No, it is journey of people insearch of the truth. This story give u two options: will u leave the past and move on OR hold on to it because the truth has not yet been told. As u hear the characters' reason for their choice, u will be standing in the middle of the road unsure if it was you, what will be ur choice? The story itself started in 1984 with the Chimera case which shocked the nation and 35 years later, someone came back killing peeple with the same MO. Upon this, u start seeing characters getting fidgety about the case because it was too similar to the 1984 case. Now u as the audience start to ponder, did somethig wrong happen in 1984? Cha Jae wan, Eugene Hathaway, Lee Joong Yeop and lastly Kim Hyo Kyung come together, each with their own sets of skills, strengths and connections to the Chimera case to search the truth about both the 1984 and 2019 case. Twists, plots and secrets are slowly unveiled and each one more suprising than the other as the story progressed. I have a lot of experience with serial killing series but I did not see this coming. As the truth are revealed and the perpetrator exposed, the latter said ' if only one of them had said the truth, I would have stopped there itself. That's why it is not just not a revenge story but instead the only thing that was asked is ' TRUTH'. A desperate need for the truth turned a person into a monster. It is up to u to decide, was it best to leave the past in the past? One thing I most enjoyed through the show was the depiction of Hate turned to Bromance btw CJW and LJY. It was a marvelous turnover and the depiction of loyalty and trust that ensures btw these 2 characters is a worth-watch.

I started to watch this nonchalantly...just because I did not have anything else to watch. However now that's over, it became one of my favorite historical drama.
The ML was phenomenal in acting as a woman and let me point out even visually he was amazing as a girl. He did good portraying the sad, happy and flustered emotions especially when he found his origin. He and the FL was cute together... I love their perseverance in fighting against the odds which were forcing them apart...
Speaking of the girl, she was good but idk I found lacking in certain areas especially during the sad scenes BUT she grew to expressing her emotions better as the drama progressed. Contrary to the ML, she was not as good in acting as the opposite sex...but she did her best... The best thing I liked about her was her firm refusal of the second lead's proposal... she was consistent in her actions no matter the threat the second lead put forward...
The second lead true nature was a blow to me...at first I thought he was just another love interest in the story But I was completely wrong. When he showed his true colours later on, I started hating him especially when he kept being a pushover with the FL. His reasons for taking was no better than the current king so I couldn't find it in myself to justify his heinous deeds...So until the end I was on the side on the first ML.
Lastly, I will speak about the King....It will be unreasonable no to commend his acting. He was good at shifting between the bad and good (if I may use the word) king. I cannot ignore that he really loved his friends despite all his vices but made the wrong choices because of his greed.
Speaking if the ending, it was the best ending in my opinion because the king was beyond saving and the second lead had to do what he did to be able to show how one wrong choice can destroy one's life and that of others...
I did also like to point out the supporting cast was very good especially the little girl and the second lead's personal guard; he was a man of a few words but delivered a superb acting.
In overall, the drama was nice and amazing to watch....

One of the best thriller K drama I have ever watched.

There is an American series based on the same concept but I have not watched it. Why? Because I thought it would be boring..And I thought the same about the korean drama. I started it as an afterthought because I had nothing to watch. What started as a pure pasttime ended as one of my fav drama of all time. To tell the truth, since I am starting to miss it so I am thinking about watching the American one (though I forgot its name and now have to search the entire internet for it). If I have to speak about Kim Nam Gil performance, It was phenomenal. His character is an introvert person which he definitely portrayed well and if i may go overboard since I like him, it was fantastic. His character was the best at pissing people off and he did that well. Moreover, as the story goes on, as he deals with more these lunatics living in this world, u get to see the progressive deterioration of his mental balance. The exploding of the accumulated stress, anxiety and guilt brought with each cases was perfectly written and executed at the right time. Moreover, the other characters also did well in their role and the acting was also perfect each in their villain or heroic character. The serial killer actors were so good at their character portrayal that it had me wondered if it did not affect them mentally afterwards ( which i hope did not happen). In overall, this drama is a must-watch and cannot remain on ur plan to watch list.
