Yes you're right on this account. The storyline is quite flat and like you said it's just about HL's cultivation. What's really amazing in the novel is the author's imagination and his ability to make the battles extremely exciting and tense. When I first read through the novel, there were many moments that made me unable to put it down and wanted to carry on reading, even when it was way pass bed time lol.

Season 1 drama ends at chapter 363 (book 3), out of a total of 2446 chapters (11 books) in volume 1 (spiritual realm). Lots of stories were condensed to fit into one season while a few were expanded (e.g. Ms Mo's story), but in general they did a very good job adhering to the main story and all the main stuffs are included.

Didn't you read my comments? I had finished reading the novels several times over already. It is precisely because what was mentioned here differ from what I read from the novel that I brought up this discussion. And why am I "having attitude" when all I did was asking proof from the novel to support the claims, since the replies I've gotten from above were either from memory or quoted from fan sites? If what I said is incorrect, just point me to the chapters and I'll be glad to stand corrected. How do you expect me to be convinced if what was said was not canon?
