Same for UK Netflix and US Netflix (using a VPN). I personally think that it's gonna have a sad ending and that's…
Oh I actually meant the netflix summary. Is it common for netflix too?

That confused me, because the summary used to sound more foreboding only a couple months ago which makes me wonder did they change how it was gonna end.

If that's the case then Netflix has lied because they have said it will be a romance.Since the point of queerbaiting…
The description says specifically: "Soul mate" is a soulful romance between two young men that spans 10 years.

If the romance wasn't between the two main leads, while that would be very odd, that wouldn't be queer baiting if there still is romance between two men.

My point is that it doesn't make sense for netflix to explicitly confirm that this show will have a 10 year romance between two men if they are trying to queer bait.

This gonna be a nice bromance but no bl at all. Probably queerbaiting at its finest
If that's the case then Netflix has lied because they have said it will be a romance.

Since the point of queerbaiting is to hint at queer relationships/representation in order to attract queer audiences, but not confirm anything in order to not alienate homophobes, it doesn't make sense to me why netflix would say that if their intention is to queerbait.

But I guess it's better to have low expectations and be pleasantly surprised than the other way around.

For the love of all things BL…Please let this have a well written story/plot! Also, not another sad or depressing…
If you want a happy ending, this might not be the show for you, because up until recently the description on Netflix was: In a moment of despair, Ryu Narutaki finds himself saved by Korean boxer Johan Hwang. As their wounded souls draw closer, their fates cruelly intertwine.

But then again, now the netflix description sounds less foreboding so maybe the ending won't be as sad: Haunted by guilt and doubt, Ryu flees Japan for Berlin and is saved by Korean boxer Johan. Their chance encounter binds their destiny for years to come.

it's still not out yet, but i don't understand why a shoulder to cry on is considered a bl for bl fans but this…
From my understanding, a lot of people only consider it a BL if it is a romance in terms of genre. I haven't seen a shoulder to cry on, but from a Google search it says that it is a romance.

god forbid people want ROMANCE portrayed in a ROMANCE movie
It's a limited series, not a movie. It's also a drama, not a romance. That doesn't mean there won't be romance in it (Clearly there will based on the synopsis), just that the genre isn't romance. Comparing the trailer to the trailer of 10dance is not a fair comparison because they're different genres. I would wait until it's out to judge.

I don't get why after the trailer there are comments saying that the show will be a bromance or a one-sided romance when the description under the official YouTube trailer says '“Soul Mate” is a soulful romance between two young men that spans 10 years.'

Also, I find it odd how some of the people complaining the most don't even seem to know that this is a series, not a movie.

Personally, I think there will be romance between them, but that the series is tagged as drama rather than romance because it won't have a HEA/HFN (happy ever after/happy for now). Like how Romeo and Juliet isn't romance in terms of genre (it's tragedy) despite being about a romance, because it has a sad ending. I think this show will focus more on realism, whereas the romance genre is more about escapism. I've heard that it's this director's style to not reveal the main plot points in the trailer.

One thing I find interesting is that the description on Netflix used to be: In a moment of despair, Ryu Narutaki finds himself saved by Korean boxer Johan Hwang. As their wounded souls draw closer, their fates cruelly intertwine.

Now the netflix description sounds less foreboding: Haunted by guilt and doubt, Ryu flees Japan for Berlin and is saved by Korean boxer Johan. Their chance encounter binds their destiny for years to come.

Also, don't expect the show to be steamy or have sex scenes. The Netflix UK rating puts if there is sex or sex references on a show and there are none for this. There are other content warnings on Netflix UK that aren't on US or Canadian Netflix or on the tags on MDL, but it might be a spoiler, so I will only put them in a reply that is spoilered

it is, it has been confirmed.
In the UK, Netflix lacks an LGBTQ+ tag. I went on Queer eye and it didn't have that tag and then I went on it with a VPN and Canadian IP and it had a an LGBTQ+ series tag.

How does a sad ending make the story of a romance into NOT a romance? And why are you expecting that?
So generally a genre romance needs to have a HEA (Happy Ever After) or a HFN (Happy For Now). This is why the genre for Romeo and Juliet is tragedy rather than romance. That doesn't mean the relationship wasnt romantic, it's just about the genre.

I'm expecting a sad ending because of the description on Netflix and also the tags in the UK.

It doesn't have the LGBT+ tag on mine that other people are seeing
I just had a look at the tags for Queer Eye and with a UK IP it didn't have any LGBTQ+ tag, but with a Canadian IP it had the LGBTQ+ series tag. So it seems like the UK just lacks an LGBTQ+ tag.

To add to the bromance vs romance discourse, I think there will be romance between the two main characters, but I don't think the show's genre will be romance because I'm expecting a sad ending.

This is based on the Netflix description and the content warning for suicide (although that may not be about the ending).

Also, do not expect there to be sex because there is no content warning for sex, sex references, or sexual images and UK Netflix usually has some or all of these if a show or film has sex.

I don't see it listed as LGBTQ+ on my Netflix 🤔
What tags you see in more details is location dependent. In the UK there is no LGBTQ+ tag under more details, but when I used a VPN with a Canadian IP address there was.

UK. I just used a VPN (with a Canadian IP) and it changed the tags. It added 'LGBT+ series' and got rid of the content warnings. I wish I could upload a screenshot to show you. Hopefully they add the LGBT+ series tag to the UK one ssoon.

In the UK, it doesn't have the LGBTQ+ series tag yet when I click 'more'. But I just used a VPN with a Canadian IP address, and it does have the LGBTQ+ series tag.
