He does act like the emperor, though. We've been shown that he's ruthlessly fair when it comes down to it (like when he learned about the pearl corruption), and he's a good ruler: he listens to his advisors' opinions before making a decision, and is always open to discussion and can change his mind later on. He's not a tyrant. As for his attitude, I think he's getting along as well as he can while dealing with his grief, but Tilan does keep purposely provoking him and poking at his gaping wound. To be clear, that does NOT excuse what he did.

Agreed on all accounts. Haishi's love looks more like puppy love to me, nothing too deep, so it's hard to feel anything about it. As for the love triangle, I really don't understand why they keep pushing the Tilan/Emperor agenda when Haishi's supposed to come into the picture, this entire thing is moving waaay too slow.

"I genuinely cannot figure out why I like this show" : same here, really. It's fully of tropes and clichés we've seen a gazillion times before, the main couple doesn't have much chemistry, the music is nothing to write home about and the plot really isn't captivating or anything, but somehow, it's still kinda interesting.

They really shouldn't have kept William Chan and Xu Kai Cheng for the scenes with Liu Qi Qi, it would have made the entire thing much more palatable. Instead, it feels like they're both much older than her when they're not.

To me, it looked like he was putting on a show as @Darkglow said, but I could be wrong, it wasn't clear at all.

Oooh, that's what it was! I was SO confused in the first episode when the emperor got shot and then suddenly FJM was injured. I thought the arrow had somehow gone through him but couldn't see it no matter how many times I played it back.
