It not just CDrama, Kdrama is the same. It largely have to do with risk, alot of production need to ensure some kinda hit. And making stuff that already have a fan base, like adapting a web novel is less risky.
It's so funny to read some of the comments (in a good way). like 70% of people drooling over the chemistry, and 30% playing a guessing game with the plots.
