They teach women that calling their husbands by their name is disrespectful in most cultures. Many cultures even here in Africa think respect is only owed to men so men call their wives anything but the women are often restricted to do the same. The women only start using endearment to refer to their husbands if their husband approves and are not so rigid. Also men are mostly typically older than their wives. I guess the same applies here.
