Also, I was just thinking, the leads' interactions with this drama are what I (in hindsight) wanted from the mortal realm arc in The Legend Of Shen Li (even though I really enjoyed The Legend Of Shen Li once we knew the characters were in love, I didn't really know WHY they fell in love).
In contrast, this drama is building the reasons into their growing affection much better. The progression is organic, the pace is gentle, and sparks are slowly starting to fly. Getting to watch their secrets unfold as they grow closer and as we learn more about the characters proves to be a compelling concoction.
Yan Zheng has become more and more convincing as a fallen noble hiding his identity. He clearly has a lot of tools, weapons and resources in his arsenal, and he's only scratched the surface of showing us what they are, and what he's capable of.
This drama is so refreshing, Iβm usually obsessed with MLs and still am but letβs talk about the FL. She is…
I had a sense the hooligans would become friends with the FL (partly because of how they were written in, but also, because they were too good-looking to not feature in the plot. π
I know the story later will feature more with the nobility and royal court, which aligns with the setting for most costume dramas, but it does feel like it's doing some new things, yes. And it has one of those strong females leads I'm learning to love (and that are becoming quite common) in costume Cdramas.

I think I like this character even better than the character this actress played in New Life Begins. The roles are very similar but here she is a little tougher and stands up for herself better. I just love her exuberance and cheeriness that somehow doesn't feel childish and immature since many FLs who try to be effusive and cheery tend to feel like kids (Douluo Continent, I'm looking at you). She reminds me a little bit of the FL in Starry Love, who I loved, too.
I love that the female lead is an unconventional hero. Sheβs highly skilled, but sheβs neither a general nor…
I do like it when you can see the reasons for someone falling in love. It feels kind of silly when characters just fall for someone because someone's pretty or due to prolonged exposure. Not a very compelling or interesting basis for attachment and affection.
π π π He's extremely pretty, and very easy on the eyes. So far it's lots of fun.
π π π I have yet to finish a drama with this ML (I started My Journey To You, but I'm a little worried the end will frustrate me because I got spoiled on the ending), and I'm on the fence about whether I'll like SOKP, so I'm glad I'm getting to see him in this. So far so good. I loved the FL in New Life Begins (she was cute, and unlike some of the East Asian actors/actresses these days, she can move her face enough to make EXPRESSIONS π ).
So, let's take it slowly. 1. Her father was either General He or one of his soldiers and maybe Yan Zheng was his…
But wasn't Fan Changyu's dad the guy with the flower and the candy in the post? And that guy looks completely different than General He. Or did I miss something and am very unobservant? π
No wonder I was so confused with the dubbing for ZLH, In all of the trailers released its his own voice then for…
He sounds really nice in this. I would never know! Sometimes is frustratingly obvious when they're dubbed by someone else, but not with this voice actor.
am i the only one laughing whenever his bangs are moving but theres no wind? he looks good but he's literally…
Oh yes! Or the way there's always snow falling outside in like 75% of the shots?
And why do they have ALL the windows open in what is obviously the dead of winter? Someone who'd never seen snow who watched this might get the idea that it's merely a fine, white sand-like substance that drops from the sky and is not accompanied by freezing temperatures. π
I know it's soon to say this for an airing drama, but so far this is really fun! They're not rushing the first few episodes like Prisoner of Beauty and Legend Of A Female General did with their slipshod editing and crazy fast pace that felt like important scenes were skipped or not included. I already think the leads have great chemistry, too, and their friendship and closeness is developing very steadily and organically. Both are rocking their parts so far.
It's also really fun knowing Yan Zheng's identity while everyone else has no idea; I'm excited for the reveal of his real name (and obviously we have the FL shrouded in more mystery as regards her identity, too).
does it compare to Vincenzo? I mean is it on same lines?
It's not a revenge story in quite the same way, and it is less comedic. I thought Vincenzo had some very gruesome, dark stuff, and while Devil Judge has a lot of dark stuff, too, it felt like it fit better because the society/world it's set in is mildly dystopian and therefore the justice system has essentially failed (it was definitely not my favorite drama). I don't think I'm a big of this screenwriter even though I usually love law dramas (he tends to write around law themes).

It's constantly snowing in this drama. π
