Let me remind you that Yumi's Cells was never supposed to have 3 seasons.
They filmed Seasons 1 and 2 back-to-back for that reason. At the time the drama was announced, many people were skeptical about how it would turn out with the combination of animation and live-action filming. Many even predicted it would be a complete flop. Webtoon fans weren’t thrilled with Kim Go-eun being cast as Yumi, neither was Ahn Bo-hyun also relatively unknown at the time.

As it turned out, the drama was well received, even breaking TVING’s subscription records, critically acclaimed, KGE winning a Blue Dragon award. However, the open ending of Season 2 left fans unsatisfied, since the Sunrok arc wasn’t shown at all.
Production took time to be decided since everyone involved were booked and busy with their own projects.

In summary, Season 3 is a miracle, bless our hearts.
