I feel it kinda set us up from the start this way. They were on destined ending from the beginning he just chose to love her instead resist her or fight throughout the whole journey getting to the end. It looks like he ascended at the end and appeared in GOd form, so maybe not a complete ending for them after all. Just gonna take more time
