To be honest, for me, I understand why Su Mo reacted that way. To hear this from the person he hates the most,…
Frankly, I think at this point in the drama Bai Ying is giving in, she wants to have both her love and to fulfill her duty, but she knows once she fulfills her duty she will die... That's a lot to get your head around. I think she has long been prepared to be the sacrificial lamb to pay for what she perceives as her guilt in the role of the fall of Kongsang. Su Mo showing up has got her messed up and confused. She was just taking some time to unravel it all. I'm willing to be patient with her on this one... I think she is one of those who keeps everything to herself and Su Mo is the same, so if they want to be together they both have to overcome that character trait and start to think as a pair, but they haven't made that commitment yet....
Regarding Prince of Qing's attempt to separate them, Bai Ying had already told Su Mo she had something big to tell him when they left Jiuyi. So, I think she was going to tell him. After all, confessing your love and also that you are going to die is big news, not suitable for a discussion in the middle of a crisis.
He also kept secrets from her and frankly, that dark power of his could easily turn on him and turn him into the villain at some point soon. So... I kind of think they are the same. I don't think she has been deceptive, she just doesn't know how to tell him, doesn't want to hurt him or worry him (same reasoning he has for deceiving her).
His reaction to the news about Bai Ying was extremely out of character. In the past, no matter what happened he was cool and poker faced. I think the murderous energy of the sword might be affecting him, as he keeps having flashbacks from the sword of Bai Wei being stabbed, but also it was a shock coming from Prince of Qing all of a sudden like that. They will eventually, I hope, find a solution that allows them to fulfill their duty and get their love. Or it will end in sacrifice... who knows...
Regarding the alliance.... Bai Ying had not promised Su Mo anything romantic, and his dealings were largely with Zhen Lan. After all, they need each other to undo each other's seals. However, there is a possibility that Su Mo will now hesitate because he doesn't want Bai Ying to die for Wuse City. However, I think Zhen Lan doesn't want this either and he just found out too, so they may cooperate and try to find a solution together. But I don't think Bai Ying is selfish or shrewd at all, I think she is extremely generous and selfless. He was never used (that was just Prince of Qing's attempt to sow discord). It was all fair trade. When he cooled down, he also remembered Bai Ying saying certain things when she was drunk that gave her secret away.
Yeah and it didn't take long for him to cool off and think clearly. I also think that sword's ζζ° (murderous energy) affected him, cause he kept getting flashbacks of stabbing Bai Wei.

Bai Ying didn't lead Su Mo on... Bai Ying was constantly rejecting him, over and over. In fact, many comments further down were complaining about how Bai Ying kept pushing him away. But the reality is that they are in love. She loves him, he loves her. He kept pursuing her, kept saving her, kept being around her... Hard to resist... She has lived purely for duty for 100 years feeling like she was to blame for the fall of Kongsang because she fell for Su Mo. The more time she spent with Su Mo, the more she gave in to her own desire, but whenever he asked her she always answered, what I want is to see my people see the light again... She didn't know how to tell him. Just like he hid his dark magic from her and how it was harming him, she also hid the reality of her condition. She also said she had something to tell him later, she promised to tell him the truth. I can't blame her for feeling torn between her heart and what she wants, and her duty and commitment, and what she can offer...
Secondly, Su Mo is benefitting equally from the alliance with Kongsang, there is no taking advantage of one side. They help him and he helps them. The Prince of Qing just said all of that in order to try to provoke a reaction out of Su Mo. But in reality, Su Mo needed the Kongsang people as much as they need him to break their respective seals. Fair trade.
So, I don't think either Bai Ying or Su Mo are wrong, or Zhen Lan for that matter. They are all victims of their circumstances....
Within 3 episodes the little Qing prince finds himself love with the mermaid girl. Itβs almost the 30th episode…
Yeah which is also weird because they're like committing to each other after knowing each other for no time at all, meanwhile everyone else is on the slowest burn ever...
u have to wait for better subs, the ones that are out are just machine translated, the ones subbed on viki are…
Yeah, but these kinds of dramas are largely understandable and even if I don't catch every word, I get the gist. I actually know a fair few idioms and expressions. When I hear them I look them up in my dictionary and save them. When you get more intellectual historical dramas with lots of literary quotes then it's hard. I've learned one Li Bai poem, I actually heard it in a drama recently, I was like AAHHH! I KNOW THAT ONE! π
Are you still living in China or have you moved away?
This drama has a couple of great songs. The end credits one by Zhou Shen and also the Mao Buyi one. Gorgeous. I often watch the credits just to listen to the song lol. ππ

Me too when I can't be bothered to wait. Are you a Chinese native speaker? I am learning Chinese, understand most of what is being said except in particularly complex passages!
