Definitely a good episode....However, I still feel like FYJ and YXS's thinking is a little twisted and their relationship…
I'm not trying to be rude or a smart ass, but seriously, wouldn't this be a great cause for some deep reflection as to WHY your thinking is the way it is on this matter? They are not blood-related, the primary obstacle to STRAIGHT intra-family romances, they are ten years apart in age so did not "grow up" together, they are not hurting anyone who isn't CHOOSING to be hurt, and they are well-aware of the rarity of their feelings for each other and have given it a LOT of thought over time. This is not happening rashly. So what, exactly, is the objection? is it unusual? Yes. So are many other beautiful and lasting things. Does it require the dad to examine himself deeply? Yes. He's done that and he has chosen LOVE. I am very proud of Dad.
My thinking is that a lot of people who object to the step-brother relationship are doing so as a result of their OWN societal brain-washing and conditioning. Society and culture teaches us good things and it teaches us lots of hurtful bullshit too. It is up to us to separate what is useful from what is not and go forward from there. The world is not lacking in hate, for goodness sake, so why wouldn't we choose to support all the love we possibly can, regardless of the angle from which it comes?
Ahhh episode 9 was soooo good! That debate between Yongjie and his mom had me laughing real hard! So excited for…
Mei Fang is a great and loyal friend to all of them, but especially to MR and LC. Just as with all kinds of people, some Fujoshis are intrusive and annoying but others are supportive and respectful. So what if she, for some unknown reason be it DNA or otherwise, LOVES two guys in a loving relationship? If only all gay couples got that kind of unconditional support from those around them.
AS a Sikh myself, I think it is problematic. A turban is not just a cultural aspect but a RELIGIOUS ONE. there…
Your completely unself-aware, multiple use of the classic SJW term "problematic" is a hilariously transparent giveaway of where you are coming from in general. This show's not problematic except to a few whiners like you.
Where was it acknowledged that not every Indian person would agree? I must have missed that and would be glad to see it.
Other than that, you saying I'm on the defensive doesn't make it so.
The production company isn't going to acknowledge anything and they don't need to "do better" in any future show. That's your fantasy. In fact, from what I've read, they are handling this from the opposite direction, which I'm happy to see. They have chosen not to be swayed by complaints from the sensitive fee-fees crowd. Bravo to them.
Who tf is vampire man and of course he would make them do the dirty work that’s what they do.... after all he…
Well, apparently you're too simple minded to grasp the concept of giving someone or something a name with tongue-in-cheek. I never said the dude is a vampire, I implied that he LOOKS like one. Jesus. And yeah, yeah, you're much more intelligent than me and I can't grasp your deep analysis of what's going on...whatever. Don't be bothered. See ya.
Sigh I don’t think you get the point of their relationship that’s the whole point SHE is is supposed to be…
I agree with you on that, I just think their relationship is poorly written and explained. I GET that there's nothing to hang onto, not arguing with you about that. You and I simply disagree on how that aspect of the story is represented. And that's fine, we can disagree.
That wasn't cultural appropriation tbh. That just seemed like straight up cultural insensitivity and very offensive.…
Not clear what section you're deleting, but go for it. Yeah, that's right, it's always the one arguing against the consorious SJWs who are in the wrong, right? :D
That wasn't cultural appropriation tbh. That just seemed like straight up cultural insensitivity and very offensive.…
You're projecting wildly at this point. I can feel the spittle flying from here. Yes, you keep referring to "South Asians," "Sikhs," "Indians," whatever as if each group consists of millions of people who all think and believe and react in exactly the same way. What's funny but sad is that you don't even see yourself doing it. News flash: There are 1.3 billion Indians. They are NOT a monolithic group of humans who are all exactly alike. Why is that hard to understand?
I certainly never claimed to represent ANY group except for free-thinking, open-minded audience members, whatever their race/ethnicity/national origin who just want to enjoy a fucking BL without busy-bodies like you trying to change what they're able to see while accusing them of all kinds of SJW thought-crimes. Patronizing others is YOUR thing.
Most of your comment above is bat-shit crazy, unrelated to what I wrote, flailing nonsense, so I'll just leave it at that for others to evaluate as it is. See a shrink.
You're going to stop watching FUTS aren't you? It's the only right thing to do.
That wasn't cultural appropriation tbh. That just seemed like straight up cultural insensitivity and very offensive.…
Really? Seriously? You are now condescendingly, and insultingly, putting all South Asians in one basket and pretending they all think and believe exactly the same things? And that none of them have a sense of humor...like you? lol You are a satirical stereotype of an SJW, running in circles now, biting yourself in the ass. Insulting and infantilizing the very folks you claim to be defending. No one needs your help defending their fee-fees. This is about YOU and your arrogance and paternalism and making a show of it. Why can't you just admit it and write "I don't like that scene because it offends me and my delicate vision of what the world is?" Quit trying to represent other people...they don't need your help and it just makes you look stupid.
"white privilege..." LOL what's next? "problematic?" haha Gosh...what if I were...oh, I don't know...HISPANIC or something? Wouldn't that be just wild? You really do believe people's thinking is determined by their skin color and/or ethnicity, don't you? Wow, that would make you a...bigot. hmmm...THAT'S interesting.
I think it was distasteful and it should be addressed, and I think the directors response to being told it offended…
Blah, blah, blah... yes, censorious Puritanical SJWs hit a nerve with me. That's pretty self-evident. You're a genius. "Called it what it is..." lol Yes, you define what is what for everyone, don't you? Who said I don't care about this, I care a lot, which why I keep refuting your bullshit. Who is this Sikh person I attacked? Oh, you mean the censorious, Puritannical, SJW Sikhs? Yes, I attacked them too. Kind of makes sense because ALL people with your instincts to control and censor and restrict free expression need to be attacked at every turn.
Don't be embarrassed on my behalf, you've got your hands full with your own self-shaming silliness. I don't think there's such a word, at least not in English, as "confuting," but maybe I'm wrong.
It's not that you don't LIKE a certain type of humor, it's that you think you dislike it for MORAL AND VIRTUOUS reasons when you're really just stimulating your secret, moist SJW parts.
You forgot to answer...you're going to stop watching this show, right?
That wasn't cultural appropriation tbh. That just seemed like straight up cultural insensitivity and very offensive.…
You really have ZERO idea of how paternalistic and condescending your position is, do you? You are not Sikh and you are not Indian or South Asian, but you're crying out to defend their tender feelings because...what? The few of them who will even even be aware of this show are incapable of venting their outrage on their own behalf so you have to do it for them? What is your race, ethnicity, national origin? Are you in the grip of some kind of White/Colonial guilt thing?
It's clear from the last part of your comment above that you're not even certain what it is you are pretending to be worked up about. "South Asians' (which I'm assuming is the cultures they were making a joke of)..."lol...omg. You are a caricature of an SJW. You've gone on and on about cultural appropriation but you're not sure who's culture you're spewing pieties in defense of.
You are emphatically correct about at least one thing, as you wrote above: What you think doesn't really matter.
AS a Sikh myself, I think it is problematic. A turban is not just a cultural aspect but a RELIGIOUS ONE. there…
Is it your position that EVERY Sikh Indian everywhere, or the tiny percentage of them who have seen this scene, find it offensive? How do you know? Have you taken a survey? Or is this just about what YOU feel personally? Are you suggesting the show should censor out that scene from future airings and the one that's already up on the Internet? Because of what YOU feel? Jut forget about it and go watch something that doesn't make you squeal.
I think it was distasteful and it should be addressed, and I think the directors response to being told it offended…
Then piss off, oh sensitive, delicate flower. And enjoy your outrage as often as you can find things to be outraged about makes no difference to me. Those dumb kids in their ridiculous Sikh garb were hilarious to anyone without a broomstick up their ass the size of the one you've got.
"Me wearing the sacred religious one while not being a high priestess of that culture would be probably be seen as offensive, disrespectful, and not okay by the people of that culture and that response is perfectly valid."
"Would probably be seen..." By whom? When? By ALL of them? At all times? Should art censor itself at every outcry of every tiny percentage of a population who probably don't even know about the thing they were supposed to be outraged about? Oh...it's YOU, YOU being outraged on their behalf, even though 99.9% of Indian Sikhs and Indians in general will never hear of this scene or this show, is that it? Because of your moral outrage or sensitivity or something?
From what I've read, many of the few Indians who HAVE seen this show think the scene was hilarious. Who speaks for THEM? Not you, certainly. What about the Indian Sikhs who actually have a sense of humor and perspective that you lack? Do they just have to fuck off?
Your SJW outrage/offended/sensitivity schtick has been outdated for about ten years already. It's been done a million times. Satire, slapstick, ethnic humor, comedy and sight gags are as old as humankind. Think about catching up.
BTW, are you going to stop watching this show and all others made by this production company? I feel that you should, if only to give your innately-programmed outrage antennae some rest. It must be exhausting working the PC first-alarm brigade all the time. Take some time off and watch the Disney Channel. HOWEVER, if you watch even a little bit closely, you will find LOTS to be outraged about there too.
All this energy expended over a ten-minute scene in a multiple-episode series. What a joke you are. But not quite as funny as the Sikh headgear and fake beards.
I think it was distasteful and it should be addressed, and I think the directors response to being told it offended…
Cultural appropriation is a positive thing, a sign of growth and change and openness to civilizations other than one's own. One culture invented the wheel, another the wide-brimmed, sun-protective hat. Should other cultures have prohibited themselves from adopting those very-useful inventions because it would have been rude to do so?
Now, if something from one culture is used by another to subjugate, conquer, murder or destroy, that's another question, but I would probably argue we're not even talking about the same thing in that case.
What, exactly, do you consider "cultural appropriation" to be? Does the appropriation you claim to see in this case somehow humiliate or denigrate sikhs or indians? You'd say "yes." I'd say "get a life and maybe a sense of humor."
I disagree with you on a final point: people such as yourself who hold the view we are debating are generally uptight and unsmiling to an extreme. Their minute-to-minute quest for "problematic" things to be offended by takes much of the joy out of their lives and, if we let them, they'd like to take the joy from others as well.
Generally speaking, I mean pure, unadulterated, free of grime or dirt or other inconvenient things like human passion or messy, complicated feelings/desires, at least on the surface. Everything appears to be super-clean and tidy, especially the characters' emotions. If anyone gets angry or upset, it usually veers into over-acting and melodrama. Even the sets and costumes: everything is gorgeous and lovely and spotless, without a trace of the dust or age or rough edges you'd see in living space set in this time and place..
I just want to know. What is everyone's take on cultural appropriation in this drama? IM curiuous. Not here to…
All cultures appropriate aspects of other cultures into their own. It has been this way for thousands of years and it is silly to pretend otherwise, which won't stop the SJW BL crowd here from doing it anyway. If I'm thinking of the same bits in the story that you are, then I think it's fun and hilarious.
I love how Pi told the shippers that it was not right to invade his privacy and post things without his consent.…
I think that bit with the shippers came off clunky and self-conscious, like a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT on behalf of those BL fans who get bent out of shape by shippers, who are a staple of the BL genre and the BL fandom. I don't think the shippers bother Mork one bit. He likes it.
I wish they would turn Meung Nans story into a series. I mean if the reason is that is kinda disturbing they can…
I LIKE disturbing stories. The more disturbing the better. If what I read in a comment above is true, then they should definitely make a series about it, but NOT clean it up like so many BLs do. What's the point of adapting a popular, successful dark story into some light and fluffy piece of shit?
Literally everyone is an ass, rude or doesn't understand Jong Woo from the very beginning of the show (it basically…
I get what you wrote in the first paragraph of your comment and completely agree. Except about the BF/GF. They don't even like each other, it's not just her, although she is an outright, complete and utter stone-cold bitch from the very beginning. OK...you're going to say the writers want it that way. Well then they are obligated to show us WHY JW, an intelligent, likeable, thoughtful guy, would put up with this. Maybe you're correct. The relationship is supposed to be this way. Great. Show me why either of them stays in it.
Are they just too lazy to break it off? Does JW have a masochistic streak and actually sort of gets off on being treated like shit because he fears he's a loser and doesn't deserve any better? OK, show me some of that reasoning. Show me some of what their relationship USED to be like before she went to Seoul and he followed? Was it always shitty? OK, show me some of that.
Much of your comment is insulting so I won't go to lengths to respond, but I've been around a long time and I am NOT looking for puppy dog and rainbows, touchy-feely lovey dovey portrayals of all relationships. That would be boring of course, and you are presenting a straw-man argument of black/white, either/or that I did not make in my comments about this poorly portrayed relationship. I am NOT interested in black and white/good and bad portrayals of any situation or relatiosnships, precisely because to me the universe is almost entirely gray, except at the fringes where there's a little, teeny-tiny range of white and black. That's a big, wonderful aspect of this show, a point Vampire Man makes repeatedly. The killer is in all of us to some degree. But do we choose to indulge it? That's another question.
I never said I "didn't like" JW and his GF's relationship. I said in general that it is poorly written and unexplained. In psychological terms even in relationships that "don't work" but go on and on, both parties are getting something out of it whether they realize it or not. What's JW getting out of it? She continually treats him like shit. What does she get out of it? She likes to feel superior? SHOW ME. I saw none of the answers to those questions in the script.
You argue that BL fans want hugging/kissing/all the time or hatred and abuse on the other hand. I certainly didn't write that, it's not what I want and you're a lazy debater for arguing a point I never made.
Your "don't like=bad writing" insult is something a jerk would write so, you know, fuck you. I guess you're trying to come off sort of above-it-all as it relates to this show and BLs in general. You're the one viewer who "gets it." I guess you need to feel that way so I won't argue. Yes, you are the one.
And NO, if you actually believe that writers and directors don't make huge mistakes and fail to see major problems in their story-telling all the freaking time, even with the biggest budgets and the biggest, most talented actors possible, then you are very naive and don't know much about the film and television world. Major, big-budget films are often full of major plot-holes that no one bothered to take care of, inconsistencies that don't fit the story, bad acting and bad writing. Your assertion that EVERYTHING in a film/series is carefully worked out and is there or not there for a reason is a lovely fantasy and it should be the goal, but it is anything but the common reality.
Sigh I don’t think you get the point of their relationship that’s the whole point SHE is is supposed to be…
Sigh...if that's the case, what purpose does this serve the plot? Why would either of them refer to themselves as being in that relationship when they clearly are not? JW also has no care or affection toward HER, other than to ACT as if he does in calling her occasionally. When they meet in person, I think he touched her maybe once or twice. Zero physical expression of affection. Zero kisses or hugs. Zero flirting or sweetness. NOTHING. She doesn't get anything out of the relationship either, so why is either one of them in it?
You seem to just keep saying she doesn't care for him. So...why doesn't he dump her? She's a complete bitch to him. He hangs on but why, he doesn't seem to like her either. Why does she sometimes act like she IS his GF and other times totally blows him off? None of this is explained in the story.
My thinking is that a lot of people who object to the step-brother relationship are doing so as a result of their OWN societal brain-washing and conditioning.
