Full cast has been announced, and as expected, they replaced ZHW with another actor. The role of Zhao Xiu Yuan will now be played by actor Zhao Hua Wei! The delay of broadcasting is probably due to this."

'Zhao Hua Wei' age would fit better if it is the one that has a page on MDL.

Wonder what sort of trouble Zhang Haowei got into after a 14 year career and playing in relatively memorable roles like Crown Prince in JoL2. Dramawiki mention he put his career on "a break" after being "exposed to cheating" (??) but I did not follow the gossip about him when that happened.
His face is also cause now for delay of other dramas, and dramawiki mentioned his role in 'Sheng Nv" was replaced.

Baidu cast list for Brocade Odyssey mentions a 'Mr Zhao' played by Kou Zhen Hai who is 70 years old, so that can't be ZHW replacement.

ZHW is still listed on dramawiki for the Zhao Xiuyuan role, which clear was struck on Baidu list...

--- Wondering what's happening to Golden Hairpin, where the ML got into much more serious trouble. Supposedly it got reshot in parts, and Yang Zi who is FL there put in a lot to revive the drama, but it looks like it is still "on the shelf" like many dramas that fell foul of pebbles on the way in worse fashion than this ZHW scandal.

According to an article in Chinese on Baidu : SVIP started with 6 episodes, and will update with 3 episodes per day for 15 days until finale. Regular VIP run is scheduled to last 16 days.

It is a 'fairy tale' with a lot of puns and comedy. Not sure is will appeal in translation as much as to original language audience looking for a quick and easy pastime after the heavier dramas with sad ends or just lukewarm matter of fact ends that have been prevalent lately.

The compilation of hit songs is a fun addition: several tunes were familiar to me although some are just fuzzy in my mandopop addict mind, unlike the first Mangzhong song which must have had rights sold here to come back many times.

Still, despite the fresh faces of these young actors, I am not sure I will go on.

For close relatives, the mourning period has a fixed length, it may vary between one month to three years "shǒusāng" depending on family origins in China and their relationship to the person who has died. In that period, the mourner would wear white and even a veil on head. The mourning rituals have survived to this day in some families, that's also why Huang Zitao did not want to get married in the three years after his father's sudden death.

The deceased of sufficiently moneyed families were taken away to burial grounds in coffins. and the graves would have a monument, or at least a mound and marker. The 'tablets' recording names would be placed in a designated space like on Yan Zijing.s ship or in an "ancestral hall" for remembrance and worship. There would be mentions in the books of genealogies, which are still maintained by many families, not just noble and titled families, since merchant, literary or military clans also existed for centuries and longer.

Yes, Duanwu was not dressed in mourning at the last Exhibition and guild master choice, so Yan Zijing was not dead. There is hope indeed that they went away together after the Exhibition, to live the "rest of his life together until death parted them" in a private place. Even if it was the last sparks, and the shooting star glimpsed announced a last journey, which for drama length reasons could not be expanded on without opening a second season, as LYN hinted at in a quip.

The Yàn looks like it was a merchant clan from Yangzhou like the Cuī and the Zhèng , and since this was ancient times, families could have complicated bloodline or not relationship according to whether or not they were descended from concubines, legitimate wives, or plain adopted, like lady Huán Láng or lady Yuè Yúnxiù. The former Lady Yàn was probably a distant member of the clan (or from an unrelated Yàn family), but she was never presented as aunt of Yàn Zijīng (even though aunts and uncles can be counted in a much wider way in Chinese genealogies) nor was her husband said to be brother in law of Yàn Zijīng's father, but only a valued employee, somewhat like Steward Zhèng to the guildmaster Zhèng later in the drama.
Hope that clears up your suspicion about consanguinity ;)

Btw, in China, many people share same surname without being related, and it is even more complicated by the fact that romanization (use of latin alphabet for transcription and translation), most often drop the tone marker, so names that look different in Hanzi, i.e. "Chinese character script", get same transcription abroad, in Latin alphabet countries. Example : 王 Wáng is not at all same family name as 汪 Wāng which gets both transcribed to Wang in "English". Therefore, I strived to give people and place names in the companion piece the correct tone marker (and Hanzi, when it could be found in end credits or Hanzi subtitles) .

Besides, even in Western countries you have a whopping number of people sharing same "family name" without being related: the Jones, Silber, Martin, Dupont,..... and all the Scandinavians whose name end in "son" or "sen", family names that were introduced in 18th or 19th century except in Iceland, where the phone directory still lists people by given names first, since in a same family the last name can be Jónsson for the son, and Jónsdóttir. for the daughter of a say, Jón Einarsson.
