Here they changed the 3rd ML ZHW. Replaced him with another actor
Oh, I see, replaced by actor with almost same name?
Down in comments : "krissylim 4 days ago Full cast has been announced, and as expected, they replaced ZHW with another actor. The role of Zhao Xiu Yuan will now be played by actor Zhao Hua Wei! The delay of broadcasting is probably due to this."
'Zhao Hua Wei' age would fit better if it is the one that has a page on MDL.

listening to the 6 snippets, one sounds a bit familiar in tune.
Here they changed the 3rd ML ZHW. Replaced him with another actor
So MDL cast needs to be corrected.
Wonder what sort of trouble Zhang Haowei got into after a 14 year career and playing in relatively memorable roles like Crown Prince in JoL2. Dramawiki mention he put his career on "a break" after being "exposed to cheating" (??) but I did not follow the gossip about him when that happened. His face is also cause now for delay of other dramas, and dramawiki mentioned his role in 'Sheng Nv" was replaced.
Baidu cast list for Brocade Odyssey mentions a 'Mr Zhao' played by Kou Zhen Hai who is 70 years old, so that can't be ZHW replacement.
ZHW is still listed on dramawiki for the Zhao Xiuyuan role, which clear was struck on Baidu list...
Dramas about dramas, gasp. --- Wondering what's happening to Golden Hairpin, where the ML got into much more serious trouble. Supposedly it got reshot in parts, and Yang Zi who is FL there put in a lot to revive the drama, but it looks like it is still "on the shelf" like many dramas that fell foul of pebbles on the way in worse fashion than this ZHW scandal.
Tan Sonyun in brocade sewing again but in Tang dynasty instead of Ming like "The Sword and The Brocade" (which I liked!) Looking forward to this drama, although I think Youku only platform is perhaps a mistake given the apparent level of investment. I read somewhere that one actor (who also played in Love has fireworks - not yet aired) had trouble with a law suit and was given the AI face replacement treatment. Any more info on that?
According to an article in Chinese on Baidu : SVIP started with 6 episodes, and will update with 3 episodes per day for 15 days until finale. Regular VIP run is scheduled to last 16 days.
It is a 'fairy tale' with a lot of puns and comedy. Not sure is will appeal in translation as much as to original language audience looking for a quick and easy pastime after the heavier dramas with sad ends or just lukewarm matter of fact ends that have been prevalent lately.
The compilation of hit songs is a fun addition: several tunes were familiar to me although some are just fuzzy in my mandopop addict mind, unlike the first Mangzhong song which must have had rights sold here to come back many times.
Still, despite the fresh faces of these young actors, I am not sure I will go on. Perhaps I shall wait for the compilation/abridged 'movie edition' of the short episodes, that is likely to land later on YouTube. (About 6-7hrs? in 2-3 linked videos? could that be done? will I be interested?) There is too much to watch, anyway, lol !
Im wondering if the production left it a bit open in case they wanted to expand on Duan Wu's story later on. As…
The passing of Cui shijiu's father show some of the mourning rituals. You can also look at the homages to Lady Huan after her death. White is the color of mourning. The friends would come for mourning together, like the songstresses did when they thought Duanwu was dead. Offering fruit and/or cakes on the altar, to symbolically nourish the soul of the departed, throwing in the wind or burning special paper money for the underworld, pour alcohol on the ground, also as offering. For close relatives, the mourning period has a fixed length, it may vary between one month to three years "shǒusāng" depending on family origins in China and their relationship to the person who has died. In that period, the mourner would wear white and even a veil on head. The mourning rituals have survived to this day in some families, that's also why Huang Zitao did not want to get married in the three years after his father's sudden death.
The deceased of sufficiently moneyed families were taken away to burial grounds in coffins. and the graves would have a monument, or at least a mound and marker. The 'tablets' recording names would be placed in a designated space like on Yan Zijing.s ship or in an "ancestral hall" for remembrance and worship. There would be mentions in the books of genealogies, which are still maintained by many families, not just noble and titled families, since merchant, literary or military clans also existed for centuries and longer.
Yes, Duanwu was not dressed in mourning at the last Exhibition and guild master choice, so Yan Zijing was not dead. There is hope indeed that they went away together after the Exhibition, to live the "rest of his life together until death parted them" in a private place. Even if it was the last sparks, and the shooting star glimpsed announced a last journey, which for drama length reasons could not be expanded on without opening a second season, as LYN hinted at in a quip.
15-16 minutes episodes? I had a peek on YouTube. Amused by the giant M&Ms the immortals were throwing to earth lol ! and getting a midsummer song as November wanes into December.
This drama suddenly came out of nowhere. I didn't see this on Youku's schedule from December to February. Looks…
Many old dramas seem to be falling from the shelves where they were languishing, like also Deep Lurk in very different and heavier genre, but which gained a surprising success since it aired on November 13 (it's themed around the battle of Changsha, so the date, though unannounced, was significant, since it is the sad anniversary of the incredible fire that destroyed the ancient city) Calling From the Galaxy completed filming on 2021-Sep-25, Deep Lurk started shooting in November 2019....
❤️❤️❤️ The Intro Song. End Credit song is pretty cool too. 🎶 Wonderful vocal athleticism. Would…
Same as Amarina. One of my fave versions of 芒种 , along with the original by Zhao Fangjing who sang it for a series themed around the Chinese lunisolar calendar terms (here she is dancing it : https://www.bilibili.tv/en/video/4792511955079168 ) is the one where Zhao Lusi sang and danced it, and played it on her guzheng : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKValJQOYKQ Mangzhong is a period in this calendar, it symbolises new beginnings and nourishment, laying the groundwork for prosperity and renewal. This solar term, which commenced this year on 5 June 2024, is the only solar term that directly references agricultural activities, while its pronunciation in Putonghua sounds the same as "busy planting." The terms lasts for 15 days, this one is in midsummer,
No they aren't. Where did you get notion they had same surname? If you have trouble with names, surnames and keeping…
ah yes, personal maid of the clan leader wife, totally like the Zheng steward. Perhaps very distant relative or adoptive in the clan, or just namesake. Not close relative. But Duanwu was unborn when her father died. She was abandoned in the care of a seemingly sympathetic couple after her mother scarred herself on the face to avoid the fate of pearl diver or breeder. Lady "Ba" hoped her daughter would not grow to become a slave diver, but Duanwu still did. Duanwu could not have a memory of the half moon jade ornament, which was given to YZJ's (later lost) baby sister Yan Zilin, before her father's death. That gift was before the trek back from Kang to Yangzhou. The Yan convoy had stayed abroad long enough and were on their way back when they were attacked by Black Dragon bandits. That's why Yu Shi had had time to carve the apsara statue, probably before the parents convoy rested in Langhuan "safe place".
let's wish the debate goes on for YZJ too, then ;) as many years as for the Titanic movie ! (though reasonably: YZJ was afflicted with a terminal disease, so could not have easily survived, sigh)
I reported it too, lets hope Admin acts to send person away for reasons. Meanwhile, to not be bothered by nefarious spam messages from some, I just also proceed to block that account so those spam won't show in the comments list for me any longer. A D fan? Pitying D to have such in her cohorts following. They make D look like the Evil Queen teleguiding armies of black fans out of rumored jealousy of one tiny Rosy, lol ! I suspect that Plasticlunatic added hearts to her own messages.
No they aren't. Where did you get notion they had same surname? If you have trouble with names, surnames and keeping…
The relationship if any was never explained. The Yàn looks like it was a merchant clan from Yangzhou like the Cuī and the Zhèng , and since this was ancient times, families could have complicated bloodline or not relationship according to whether or not they were descended from concubines, legitimate wives, or plain adopted, like lady Huán Láng or lady Yuè Yúnxiù. The former Lady Yàn was probably a distant member of the clan (or from an unrelated Yàn family), but she was never presented as aunt of Yàn Zijīng (even though aunts and uncles can be counted in a much wider way in Chinese genealogies) nor was her husband said to be brother in law of Yàn Zijīng's father, but only a valued employee, somewhat like Steward Zhèng to the guildmaster Zhèng later in the drama. Hope that clears up your suspicion about consanguinity ;)
did it now? I thought along same lines, a tragic masterpiece which no one would dare slap bad reviews on. Here is the song of that other one, to remind : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2RnxZnubCM
I feel angry at the outcome even if it was done beautifully. Just let him live! He suffered so much as a child.…
lol --- are you a Trekkie ? I like SF too (its my first fandom tribe), especially the Murderbot series, these days, and everything related to distant stars and planets like the novels and stories by Jack Vance, R.Silverberg, R.Heinlein, P.K.Dick, UK Le Guin, Vonda McIntyre, etc, and now Martha Wells, Aliette de Bodard, plus of course Liu Cixin.... and related fantasy fiction, all the way to GRRM's stories (voted for his first twin Hugo awards) and although I am not really fluent in Klingon, or in Quenya, among the more popular "invented languages", I speak some High Valyrian...
This drama could have as moral : "Valar morghulis" (all men must die) the "hello" form of that tribe in GoT ;) [I should write A Song of Ice and Fire since I am more of a book reader in these genres and tepid to the drama adaptations and let-down ending there]
Are the both main leads brother and sister because they both have same surname yan can anyone explain
No they aren't. Where did you get notion they had same surname? If you have trouble with names, surnames and keeping track on who is who, you can turn to my companion piece, sections 4 to 6 with pictures : https://mydramalist.com/discussions/zhu-lian-yu-mu/131556-the-story-of-pearl-girl-companion-piece (direct link to sections in the Table of contents, just click on relevant section titles for characters directory, map of journey and more)
Btw, in China, many people share same surname without being related, and it is even more complicated by the fact that romanization (use of latin alphabet for transcription and translation), most often drop the tone marker, so names that look different in Hanzi, i.e. "Chinese character script", get same transcription abroad, in Latin alphabet countries. Example : 王 Wáng is not at all same family name as 汪 Wāng which gets both transcribed to Wang in "English". Therefore, I strived to give people and place names in the companion piece the correct tone marker (and Hanzi, when it could be found in end credits or Hanzi subtitles) .
Besides, even in Western countries you have a whopping number of people sharing same "family name" without being related: the Jones, Silber, Martin, Dupont,..... and all the Scandinavians whose name end in "son" or "sen", family names that were introduced in 18th or 19th century except in Iceland, where the phone directory still lists people by given names first, since in a same family the last name can be Jónsson for the son, and Jónsdóttir. for the daughter of a say, Jón Einarsson.
